(1)Marvin Hagler on the cut he suffered against Tommy Hearns: I don’t know how I got the cut. I know it wasn’t from a punch. (2)George Foreman (young) on his fight with Muhammad Ali in Zaire, Africa. “The ropes were loose, I was drugged, I couldn’t leave the country, etc.” (3)Ray Leonard. Following his TKO loss to Hector Camacho, appears on a talk show in crutches. This is supposed to suggest that he fought the fight with a broken ankle. (4)“I broke my back, sir.” : Who else could’ve made this stupid ass remark. (5)Marlon Starling after being knocked out by Tomas Molinares. Starling might as well been down for a count of 30. “I wasn’t knocked down. I wasn’t knocked out.” (6)Tommy Hearns in an interview with Howard Cossell on the first Leonard fight. “I never went down.” : The films clearly showed Hearns flying out of the ring twice due to combos by Leonard in the 14th round.
Any adds will be appreciated.

I'm sure you've all heard these before, but they're still funny:
“He’s a guy who gets up at six o’clock in the morning regardless of what time it is.” -Lou Duva on Andrew Golota
“He’s the man of the hour at this particular moment.” -Don King
“You can sum up this sport in two words: You never know.” -Lou Duva
Mike Tyson, on writer Wallace Matthews: "[He] called me a 'rapist' and a 'recluse'. I'm not a recluse."
George Foreman: "The referee is the most important man in the ring besides the two fighters."

I wouldn't blame Marlon Starling for saying what he said. Stupid move by his management to put him in front of a camera when his eggs were still scrambled.

Nicolino Locche used to smoke in the corner between rounds.
There is of course the Silver Slipper post fight bar fight legend between Mickey Walker and Harry Greb.
Floyd Patterson bringing a disguise with him to the Liston fight so he could escape afterwards without being noticed.
Roberto Duran partying the night of No Mas until Carlos Eleta showed up and dragged him off to the hospital.
Rocky Marciano apparently hiding money in all sorts of odd places.
Billy Conn, ahead after 12 rounds, deciding trying to knock Joe Louis out was the right idea.
And in reference to the Ray Leonard on crutches situation, how about Wilfredo Benitez ACTUALLY trying to fight on a broken leg?
And of course Carlos Monzon chucking his wife off a hotel balcony killing her and then jumping himself and surviving.

There was a well known boxer in the twenties who used to keep his pet monkey at ringside. At the end of the fight the monkey would jump on his shoulder in celebration. Can somebody help me out with the guy's name?I read this in my Battling Siki book, which I left at work.
No frakkin' idea. I'd love to know though!

It was Jack McCauliffe, who would become the first lightweight boxing champion in 1886.The monkey would sit in his corner during the fight.Maybe boxing needs more characters like him to jump start the sport.

I never heard of this, Hardcore. What happened? (Note: As far as the Billy Conn episode, my father swore for years that he got beat up by his father in law. Conn actually broke his hand on his face.)

The Pittsburgh kid confirms the story in "The Greatest Boxing Stories Ever Told".
After James Toney lost to Jones he claimed Kallen made him fight and he was sick and overweight and she knew all this but still made him fight. The following morning Sherry Toney called Kallen to inform her that her son James was threatening to go to Kallen's home with his gun and shoot her and her family. Kallen and her family left the house and called the police. Sherry calmed james down and the police let him go with a warning. Kallen and Toney finished out their contract and noone got hurt. Kallen Kallen had treated James like a family member and helped him get rich. He was even a groomsmen in her oldest sons wedding. One loss and James forgot all of that and threatened to shoot the whole family.

Well, looks like James Toney really is crazy. I thought he was just acting that way to sell tickets. I doubt he would've shot them, but what do I know? I've never met him.
