| Is this fight going to have a major effect on the fighting world? We have 2 all-time greats from their respective sports getting into the cage at UFC 118.
Randy Couture- All-Time MMA Great, Great Wrestler, Good Dirty Boxer, Good GnP Game, Weakness in Boxing. James Toney- All-Time Boxing Great, Great Hands, KO Power, Speed, Weakness in Wrestling and BJJ, Also no MMA experience.
What implications does this fight have? Would it really mean 1 sport is better than the other? Who do you want to win? Who do you think will win and by how?
Randy will try to take this to the ground ASAP to GnP his way to a victory. If James Toney keeps this standing then he will win by KO. Both fighters should have learnt a submission move or 2 to surprise the other fighter as no one expects a submission victory.
Your thoughts?

| The only way this should end is with Toney eating elbows on the mat. This in no way or form determine which sport is "better", since it's a personal preference, some ppl are always going to be fans of boxing, some of MMA... that discussion isnt even needed on a board like this. | |

| I think Randy kind of sits back and circles for about 15-20 seconds, making it seem like he wants to be patient. But as soon as Toney starts to push forward to fire some punches Randy goes straight for a single leg that he turns into a double and Toney is on his back. Randy lands about 10 punches and then applies an arm triangle. Fight over. | |

| im sorry but if randy can take down brocks big all american wrestling ass couture should be able to slam toney through the mat. Randy has said he is not going to rush in and take his time and look for the perfect take down and grind him out. I think if toney wins it will open the sport up more for boxers to transition over and would be good all around and if randy wins it just shows you cant learn mma over night. Randy via gnp in the first. | |

| I think Toney is going to get his ass kicked. Sooner is on the money with his prediction. Toney is going to get taken down and beaten to a bloody pulp. If Randy has sympathy for James then he'll just submit him and move on. | |

| Randy is gonna smother him for the win no problem.
It will be so awesome though if Toney KO's him.

This, though I wouldn't be shocked if Randy pulled a triangle from mount or something goofy. Or maybe he subs Toney with a neck crank or something you don't even see in modern MMA.

| Couture is in his domain and has a chip on his shoulder.Randy takes him to the ground early and the ref stops it due to strikes in round one. Can't see Toney being hurt by it,unless Couture throws some elbows in for good measure. | |

| If Randy goes out and stands straight up holding his chin out like Sylvia v. Mercer... The world will come to an end. Randy gets it to the ground right away and pounds to a verbal stoppage... | |

Not good, but that is irrelevant. Randy's chin > Toney's TD defense.

Not good, but that is irrelevant. Randy's chin > Toney's TD defense. It's relevant, Randy will leave himself open when he shoots. Will Toney be able to land clean shot during that split second? Possibly.

Possibly. You know Maia had better BJJ then Spider....that was also irrelevant. Randy has the power to choose where this fight takes place. How hard does Toney hit off his back? There is a relevant question for you.

The only reason this fight interests people is the chin wild card. The fight will be over in 40 seconds either way.

Possibly. You know Maia had better BJJ then Spider....that was also irrelevant. Randy has the power to choose where this fight takes place. How hard does Toney hit off his back? There is a relevant question for you. Problem with the Maia analogy is that Maia had to first take Spider down, which no one expected to happen. In the Toney fight, it starts standing, If randy wants to take the fight to the ground he will first have to move towarndds Toney, during this process, Randy will be vulnerable. I think it's fair to say that Toney has by far, the fastest hands, AND quickest trigger that Randy has ever faced. And it's also pretty fair to say that Randy's shots are not as quick now as they were in his hey day. Randy's chin is not irrelevant. I think how hard toney hit's off his back is much less relevant. Once the fight is on the ground I fully expect Randy to control it in such a manner that he will be free from danger. IMO this fight is 100% about wether or not Toney can land a clean hard punch when randy shoots in.

| The real question of this fight will be what kind of flashy submission move will Couture use to finish this guy with? | |
