Yeah they should have ironed everything out before the tournament started and signed all contracts before the tournament. That would have made it a lot easier. |

The same thing could be said about football too. Single elimination has a put up or shut up element to it I like.

| MMA has that dynamic too, and because it's mixed fighting the dynamic is even more important. Yet single elimination has always worked fine in MMA and in fact is gaining favor again with major promoters Bellator and Strikeforce. Actually, of all the big MMA shows, Sengoku, Dream, UFC/WEC, Strikeforce and Bellator, only the UFC doesn't do tournaments(except for the unofficial HW tournament between Mir, Nog, Lesnar and Couture)
I still favor single elimination over a two year process that still answers few questions because half the fighters pull out.

| cheap shot wolf and your kind of forgetting this tourament has already given 2 huge answers
ANDRE WARD is 4 real and Kessler isnt what we thought he was as well as Jermaine Taylr is done
single elimination worked well for the Don King Middleweight tourney and Heavyweight tourney
but this Super 6 is awesome
your telling me wolf if UFC said ok Mir, Brock, Velasquez, Carwin, Big Nog, and JDS were in a round robin tourney that wouldnt be awesome

The round robin style made sense for the Super 6. It would definitively answer who was the best. In combat sports anyone can have a great night or punch. This tourney was designed for the top guys to prove it over time and against different styles. Before Kessler dropped out everyone still had a legitimate shot, and the odds on who would win (overall and in each fight) have constantly fluctuated. In this tourney, beating a guy ranked ahead of you doesn't mean you'll beat the guy he beat or even beat him in a rematch. That's what was cool about it and that's why the round robin made sense. This is not even going into all the nonsense that would go along with scheduling rematches/putting up belts/home fight advantage/scheduling the 1st fight etc. that would happen if it were single elimination. It's not all under one roof, it's a bunch of different promoters with a bunch of different interests. The only top fighter missing is Bute. MMA does not have one division in one organization (or an organization that allows guys to jump around) that could put together a tournament of the best in the division with this level of parity. Right now, boxing has 2 or 3 divisions like that, and this tourney has helped set a much needed precedent that the best should fight the best. It ain't perfect, but it's progress. And if you're bored watching quality fights, I don't know what to tell you. It beats the alternative. |

Gotta point there. The round robin concept I have no beef with, the length is my concern. But Bird has valid points on that too. We already have learned a lot.

That's on the fighters and their teams Guys being Mr. Glass and inept promoters caused the match ups to be delayed Showtime tried to a # of double headers, but each time some BS fucked it up

| I understand the time complaint but that is just the nature of boxing as an individual sport catering to the entertainment aspect. If we didnt care who was in the tournament, they would just be plugging guys in left and right. Think how long ANY playoffs would be if they delayed games until all the players are healthy. We would be waiting on Kendrick Perkins to this day to finish the NBA finals. Thats the dynamic of team vs individual sports as well as individual sports with calendar deadlines (golf and tennis) vs open-ended individual sports. | |
