| Kings my rationale for Lesnar over Silva is that Anderson Silva was expected to sub Chael Sonnen. That end result was kind of expected, even if it was rather dramatic. Lesnar wasn't expected to sub Carwin. Pundits were actually publishing articles on how BJJ wouldn't matter in that fight. A BJJ blackbelt subbing Chael Sonnen isn't eyebrow raising. Lesnar subbing someone is.
And as I said I'd consider changing my pick if I could to Russow over Duffee because of all these comebacks, this one was the most surprising when it happened and was one of the most one sided beatings before it. Lawler and Smith we all knew were dangerous the whole time.
I don't really know which is the clear cut best.

| Anderson was never in real trouble though. Lesnar got destroyed in the 1st round. |

| Anderson was never in any real trouble? he was behind 4 rounds and was just a couple minutes away from losing every round and his belt. How is that not real trouble? thats big fuckin trouble. Not to mention there was a few intances when he was taking punches without responding...fights have been stopped for less.
I think people are distorting survival and comeback.
Lesnar survived an ass whooping and managed not to get finished. Then came back at the start of the second. Fresh slate. Both men standing...only Carwin was dead to the world and Lesnar finished the fight. No race against the clock. Lesnar was clearly the fighter with more in the tank and there was still 4 rounds to go. This says a great deal about Lesnar and believe me i was mighty impressed, i'm not discrediting the performance, but rather putting it under a different category than what Anderson did against Chael.
Anderson was being blown out of the water. He had almost no time left. Everything he had done was stuffed by Sonnen. Even his bread and butter striking was not working. Sonnen once agan had him on his back beating the piss out of him just like he did the whole fight while Spider had no real defense for it and Anderson HAD to make something happen and fast and he did it. That's a true comeback.
That is being down 30 points in the 4th quarter in the NBA and coming back to take it. That is Boston Red Sox coming back from 3-0 against the Yankees. That is Brett Favre last second touchdown pass as he was being hit against the Niners last season.
Lesnar-Carwin....not so much. Lesnar survived a tight spot in the first, and a very tight spot it was....but it's not like he was in one in the second round then completely went all ultimate warrior feel no pain on his ass and of course Carwin was night and day. Silva was in a tight spot the entire fight and he was in a tight spot when he finally made it happened and slapped on a submission right when everybody was leaning back in their chairs thinking "well, it looks like Chael is really goin to do it...just wow".
As for it's not suprising that Silva pulled off a submission on Sonnen and but it is that Lesnar did on Carwin is kind of irrelevant to the discussion of comeback...we can argue what finish was more impressive but that's another thread and i actually don't agree that Lesnar finishing Carwin via submission was more impressive just for the simple fact we didnt expect it but i doubt the majoirty of people who watched Anderson Silva be completley hapless on his back for over 20 minutes were really expecting the triangle when it was looking like a repeat of the other 4 round, even when Sonnen blew the fight against Filho it was not even at the midway point of the fight..but like i said, thats for another thread.

| I Would of givin it to lesnar/ carwin but carwin was as good as a zombie in the second so cant give brock too much credit for the finish but a ton of credit for making it to the second round. Gotta give it to silva he go his ass beat for 23 minutes. | |

| Kings I buy into everything you say but if we all missed both broadcasts and we read the end result headlines.
Lesnar survives beating for Miracle Submission in second! and Chael Sonnen dominates with takedowns but falls victim to a triangle in 5th!
Which would be more surprising? We'd just roll our eyes at Chael. This isn't even the first title fight I've watched live Chael lost this way.

| Gotta go with Silva, his was the most do or die of all of them. He had already lost on the cards. It seems like it is extremely rare for a 5th round stoppage also. | |
