| Boxing has a history of producing fighters who are ungodly punchers and who have such confidence in their power and aggression that they are always on their front foot and always moving forward and always pushing the action. What tends to happen is their thinking is SO focused that they don't train or practice defensive skill. What that can lead to is big punchers being wide open to being counter shots. Almost nobody has a chin good enough to take flush shots over and over again without melting. What this often leads to is a record consisting of a high KO percentage AND a high percentage of their losses being KO's. So who are some of these gunfighters?
Florentino Fernandez-The Ox was a Cuban middle of the 1960's. 43 of his 50 wins were Ko's and 10 of his 16 losses were KO's. He knocked out some serious people including HOFer Jose Torres and Phil Moyer. But he also got waxed by Hurricane Carter in one and Jimmy Lester in two. Was Fernandez great? Nope. Was he good, yup. Could he punch? Oh man.
Jimmy Wilde-I may be being unfair here as Wilde lost only four times in 150 fights. There is an argument he is the finest p4p puncher the sport has ever seen and nobody fights 150 times unless he's a good defender. He routinely KO'd guys who today would be 3-4 divisions bigger than him. 100 KO's in 137 wins. But he was an offensive minded machine.
Ruben Olivares-I think the second greatest Mexican fighter of all time and the finest bodypuncher of my lifetime. 77KO's in 88 fights and 9KO losses out of 13. As a bantamweight Olivares was a forward moving offensive killer. KILLER! When he moved to feather he relied far more on his boxing skills and he was also far more vulnerable. But as a bantam, if you got into the ring with Puas? You had better be ready for an unrelenting battle.
Jose Medel-Another Mexican bantam of the 1960's. He had the misfortune to be in the same era and division as Olivares, Lionel Rose, Eder Jofre and Fighting Harada. He was Ko'd by Jofre in a GREAT fight, Ko'd by Olivares, beaten by Rose and Harada and basically killed everyone else. A warrior's warrior.
Danny Lopez-Little Red remains one of the most entertaining fights in history. The featherweight had slow hands and slow feet so he wasn't much of a defender. But Lord could the man punch and he had a exceptional chin. 39KO's in 42 wins, 5KO losses out of six. But look who beat him. Salvador Sanchez twice, Bobby Chacon and Shig Fukuyama. A truly tough, tough guy.
Julian Jackson-The Hawk got in the ring 61 times. The judges were necessary only six times. 49 KO wins, 6 KO losses. Ask Herol Graham and Terry Norris if he could punch. Of course Geral MaClelland and Mike MaCallum proved his vulnerability. He was always fun.
Where am I wrong and who else belongs?

| It depends. We have guys like Margo, Andrade and Angulo who rely on their ability to walk through punches to overpower guys. They don't have to be defensively sound because they want to pressure guys. Even Pacquiao is that way to a degree.
Then we have guys like Miranda and Bailey who try and load up, but don't have an answer when they can't land bombs.
