Another technology first for Universum. Some of the fights on Saturday’s card at the o2 World Arena in Hamburg will be presented in 3D. Special 3D cameras will beam the action into the 3D Lounge at the o2 World for a select group, however this will not be visible on the live ZDF telecast. “Boxing is ideally suited for 3D,” said promoter Klaus-Peter Kohl. “We had two trial runs during gym sparring sessions. It’s an incredible experience. It was like you were in the ring too. This wouldn’t work so well in other sports, in football and Formula 1 you’re too far away. This is the future! I am very pleased to present the first 3D fight on July 31st.” The bouts selected for 3D are the main event with Sebastian Zbik, as well as the bouts featuring Juan Carlos Gomez, Jack Culcay and Arthur Matern.
Universum has embraced the new media like no other promoter in boxing, placing their extensive fight library online for fans free of charge, as well as offering a groundbreaking iPhone app.
