| RICKY HATTON has refused to rule out a return to the ring after renewing his boxing licence. Manchester’s former two-weight world champion has to yet to confirm if he will hang up his gloves or box on following his second-round knockout by Filipino Manny Pacquiao 14 months ago. Hatton, 31, has since been busy promoting but has taken steps to ensure he can continue his ring career if he decides to. He said: “I haven’t announced my retirement. Floyd Mayweather Jnr was retired for nearly two years not long ago and he made a successful comeback. “It is only 14 months for me. I have renewed my boxing licence again with the British Boxing Board of Control in case I decide to box on. “I have an open mind really, but promoting is keeping me busy. “I enjoy seeing all my lads win titles, none more so than my brother Matthew.” Hatton, whose only defeats in a 12-year career were against superstars Pacquiao and Mayweather Jnr, has previously said he would like to end his career with “an absolute war of a fight”. He overcame Australian Kostya Tszyu in June 2005 and after his KO by the Pacman, said: “The manner in which I ended my fight to Manny is not really the way I would like to bow out. “I’d like to bow out like Tszyu did in an absolute war of a fight, a wonderful fight with great sportsmanship.” British fight fans would drool over the prospect of a showdown with Bolton’s WBA world light-welterweight champ Amir Khan. But Khan has told Hatton he should call time on his career. “He has had a great career and has only been beaten by the best two fighters in the world,” he said. “He will always be known as a great fighter and he’s made enough money. Ricky should relax and chill out. http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&id=29526 |

| Sad news but to be honest no 1 should be surprised at all. Fighters always have a hard time letting go and always believe they have the skills they have always had even when it is obvious they dont. | |

| Hard to believe Ricky is only 31 but his chin has abandoned him, plus his weight troubles have got out of control. |

| Hatton is going to have turned 32 by the time any fight would occur. He'd have to lose 25-30 pounds just to be in decent enough shape to go to camp (much less the many additional pounds he would have to lose to get down to 140 or 147).
I hope he stays retired. His body has been through hell over the years with the extreme weight gain and loss. He will just be a stepping stone for a guy like Khan or Bradley.
Ricky-lose some weight for your long-term health. Enjoy promoting and your family. Don't come back.

| I don't see the point in Hatton fighting again, he'll never be able to compete at the highest level again, so why bother, and it could be detrimental to his health. Take the money and run Ricky. | |

| Losing to Pac and Floyd and having been the man at 140 is a pretty good legacy. | |

| Yeah but going out the way he did against Pac obviously left a bitter taste in his mouth. | |

| If Ricky returns he is going to have to a spend a couple months doing conditioning to get his weight to a manageable level before even thinking about signing any fights. | |

| I dont think its that bad of news. Why do people think he is done. He has only lost to two people. Floyd and Pac. Why is that so bad. If Bradley fought Floyd and Pac this year and lost to both would you say he is done? |

depending on the brutality of the losses, if hatton style losses then yes possibly he is done. Hatton was showing the signs to be honhest though, he never quite recaptured the form that saw him beat tszyu, he struggled with urango and collazo and even lazcano. Looked good against paulie because paulie had zero power, but ricky is gone, his chin is gone completely, and he wouldnt last long against any decent fighters.

Pac would have KO'd anyone with that punch. I am not a Ricky fan or anything but I just see it as he was outclassed by two much better fighters. I think he could win a few more fights against some of the top guys. Khan is one he would have a shot against. |
