| Somewhat similar fights represented their first losses in each of their last fights. Both were manhandling the fighters they were facing until they got tired after not being able to finish their opponents. Both hit really hard and are freaks who represent the "new age" of HW's.
Both need a huge win to get back into the mix. What do you think?

| Should be a stand up war. Duffee has better cardio & tech while Carwin brings more size and power. Both however would probably just stand in front of the other and bang... Carwin may look for a takedown if he started losing though. | |

| It would interest me, but I think Carwin knocks him out bad in the end | |

| No, Duffee is a long way away from that sort of challenge. I'm more interested in Duffee vs Barry at the moment. |

| Why is Duffee so far away? Carwin was brusing Neil Wain just yesterday. | |

Todd's last fight showed he's still green and inexperienced, he's 24 with only 7 professional fights under his belt, Carwin is 35 with 13 proffesional fights. Come on Wolfy I expect better from you. |

Exactly. Duffee, even in a loss, looks more polished than Carwin in my opinion.

| Yo I could have sworn Carwin showed in experience in his last bout too by blowing his load and burning himself out...?
UFC HW's are in contender fights overnight. Brett Rogers fights James Thompson one day, the best HW's in Strikeforce the next. Carwin is KOing Wellesch one minute, Frank Mir the next.
Behind JDS/Nelson the feild gets really thin again real quick. The UFC HW division is nothing short of a minor promotional miracle in how quickly they were able to generate a handfull of significant fighters overnight, but behind the big four who emerged at the same time(Cain, Carwin, Lesnar, Dos Santos) and Mir, things get really dry.

| Who is out there on Carwin's level? What would Duffee need to do? Beat Gonzaga?

I think they've moved JDS at a nice pace. Sure they started him with Werdum, but even with that victory he fought good, but not quite great HWs. -Cro Cop -SS -Zaga -Yvel And Nelson next

| I've got Carwin by brutal KO. Yes both guys gassed and thus lost their most recent fight, but Carwin was fighting Brock while Duffee was fighting a non entity.
I'm with Ali here. Not a worthwhile matchup right now.

| JDS is being brought along too slowly IMO. Dana says he doesn't like to promote with the idea of setting up future matchups down the line, and that he likes to promote fight by fight, but it is pretty clear they've been picking JDS opponents carefully to avoid a large wrestler until he can be used for a title PPV. | |

| I like how they've brought Cigano along, he's been fighting solid competition. He's arguably more worthy of a shot than Cain is. |

In depth, but the Nog fight alone is bigger than any of JDS's wins.

| The Nog win was big but it's pretty obvious he's on a rapid decline, Carwin could have easily scored a spectacular knockout like that if he'd been given the opportunity. |

He's arguably more worthy of a shot than Cain is. That is the problem then right Ali? He was worth a title shot before Cain and especially Carwin, yet is last, and may not get it as he has to face a very dangerous Nelson yet. Nevermind the fact his resume is better. Cain has beat an old Nog, but Dos Santos has a faded Pride legend in his book as well. Dos Santos flattened the top-ten number 1 contender Fabricio Werdum in his first UFC fight, and has been dominant against fighters who are all still in the UFC(except for Werdum who is the best ranked HW outside the UFC now and a better win than anyone on Cains or Carwins resume at this point) with wins over Yvel, Struve, Gonzaga, and Crocop. Christian Wellisch, Neil Wain, Denis Stojnic, Jake O'Brien and Brad Morris are all out of the UFC.

| Werdum/CC together > Nog. And I would have said this before Mirko's recent winning streak and Werdum's victories in Strikeforce over top HWs Antonio Silva and Fedor. | |

Christian Wellisch, Neil Wain, Denis Stojnic, Jake O'Brien and Brad Morris are all out of the UFC. I am not really bothered about Dos Santos getting a shot behind them, the UFC just want to strike while the iron is hot with Cain, hype it up to milk the Mexican market. Do the whole "Cain could become the first Mexican Heavyweight champion." The good thing is by the time Dos Santos gets his shot he'll be experienced and give the current champion a tough challenge. |

| After seeing the shot from Russow that turned out the lights for Duffee I'm not sure how long he'd hold up in there | |

| I think you'll find out, brutal KOs and Carwin go hand in hand.
The Russow shot was mediocre at best if you rewatch it.
