| 1)Im not a huge Werdum fan, but like sheilds, the guy has earned a spot amongst the sports elite. just look at his wins.
2)I am a big jr fan, the dude is badass.
3)just because Werdum was KO'd a couple years back by one of the UFC's best fighters, almost certainly their best hwy striker, does not mean we should write Werdum off as a top 3 hwy.
4)a quick list of guys who have been KO'd, and then went on to bigger things, many of whom would avenge the loss. gsp. Rua. Wandy. Page. Chuck. Belfort. Hughes. etc etc.

| I agree. He got ko'd by JDS(and i think he would again),but i think he should still be ranked higher. No one has better wins than Werdum. You don't see anyone saying Joaquim Ferriera should be ranked higher than JDS when he Sub'd him in the 1st rd.Everyone loses at some point | |

| Well since this is obviously directed at me, give your bullshit a rest Capt. looking at the UFC top 4, I don't see Werdum beating any of them, 3 can keep the fight where ever they want and destroy him standing, and one already dropped his ass, and I'd expect it to happen again. | |

| Im with LA. Werdum wasnt near any1s top 3 before the fight last night so lets drop the BS now like every1 knew he would win or some shit. No 1 really gave him a shot last night and most would pick Fedor in a rematch also. | |

a)look at his wins prior to last night. A pretty good list. We were all sleeping on Werdum. b)a win over the GOAT, who by all indications was still in his prime, should be followed by a jump in the rankings. What because we all picked Fedor to win, that means the win does not count?

| Werdum vs JDS rematch might be the best possible fight in MMA in a couple years. | |

| I would not go that far sooner.
Well, i'm happy to say even before Werdum fought Bigfoot i deemed Werdum-JDS an aberration. Werdum was clearly out of shape(20 pounds overweight from his usual), unmotivated having been leapfrogged for a title shot because somebody beat Heath Herring and can draw a buck, and ever think he might of took the unknown, 6-1 fighter lightly or if not lightly was completely unprepared? I mean watch the fight again...Werdum has tits and looks like he's guessing what he might do against this guy.
I've always said that. Not saying JDS would not beat him again because i think JDS is high level, i really do, but considering Werdum has fought top talent his entire career...and nothing close to that has ever happened and he was never in such bad physical shape...it was an aberration and i've said numerous times in the past that i think a rematch would be a lot different.

The win definitely counts but the problem is he almost has to do it again in my book. Like when Serra beat GSP. It was huge but it was a fluke as in my opion this was. Fedor would win the rematch no doubt in my mind.

| Come on tim..Werdum is not a BJJ and submission wrestling champion..considered one of the best in the world in that department because he looks good in a gi...i think when somebody like that beats anybody via submission it's fair to say it was not a fluke. Somebody like Mackens tapping Fabianno is a fluke. Ryo Chonan's flying heel hook on Spider is a fluke.
Calling something a fluke usually says that in the same exact situation, it would not happen again, like Mackens tapping Fabiano. If Fedor follows Werdum to the ground and swings recklessley into his open guard...10 times out of 10. Nobody was saying this before the fight because it went without saying...anybody who thought because Fedor sat in Nogs guard he could to Fabricio needs to do their homework.
If you think Fedor wins a rematch, in which i agree...It's because he comes in with a more careful and respectful game plan...not because Werdum would not be able to do the same thing in the same situation again. It was not a fluke.
This is what would happen to Anderson Silva had he followed Maia or more than likely Thales to the ground...That is why he didnt because chances of tappage would be high and it would not be a fluke when it happened.

| Well, nobody ever dismissed the futility of swinging wildy in Werdum's open guard. Dumb-Yes. Fluke-No.
Sure, Fedor may last longer with Werdum on the ground had he kept posture and stayed patient but i really think he would want to avoid that game all together. You're just always leaving the door open...even when he fought Nog. The difference though, he may have been more comfortable on the ground with Nog than he was standing, because Nog has excellent boxing. Really no excuse to be chasing Werdum.
Fedor is an amazingly well rounded fighter who has always played with fire. Standing with CroCop, AA, Semmy, Rogers. Sitting in Big Nog's guard. Continuing to fuck with Werdum's open guard when he almost got caught before Werdum actually locked it in. It was just a matter of time until he got burnt. I think it will make Fedor stronger. Fact is, 33-2 is still pretty fuckin good. All the best in this sport have taken their bumps and now Fedor has too. Definetly a weird day but i'm happy for Werdum. He took it by being himself.

| LA most upsets and title fights are some combination of champion/favorite making mistake/being past their prime ect and the challenger taking advantage of the mistake or moment. | |
