| Smith is a high C level fighter with a comeback win over a videogame fighter who had never beat anyone himself.
Leben's resume is far better.
Smith would comeback to the UFC and lose 3 straight fights.

| They have very similar resume's and skillsets LA. Very very similar. Of all the "elite" users here, you are the most swayed by initials on gloves. No one will disagree with that about you either kid. Sorry man but it's true. Scott Smith has his entire career in the UFC and you'd have a different opinion of him entirely.
Scott Smith resume ; Former WEC LHW champion, defended one time. Wins over;

| Bad neg especially when it's true
I would think differently of Smith, with a 2-3 record in the UFC he;d probably have an even worse record.
Leben has wins over
Cote Santiago Simpson Martin Sakara Fiorivanti Rivera Benji Swick
He wins resume by a landslide

Ya those resumes are near identical kid. If I had to pick I'd take Leben but it is narrow and I could easily buy an argument for the other way. You're a fucking idiot sometimes. I mean that in a good way. Still best friends?

| I think Leban's is a little better at this point, but it is close. They would make for a good brawl.

| Saniago isn't a fighter, and Santiago was a shell of what he is now when he was losing that bad and went 2-2 in the UFC. Kennedy is arguably as good or better right now than Santiago is.
Cote is a great win, but it's value is inflated because he fought for a title, when really he isn't much different than Lawler, Smith or Leben skill for skill.
You can make a case for either fighter, but to say Smith isn't on the same level is pretty goof troopin. You go by initials on the gloves, yo thats cool man. Whatev. It's cool, really. Some thing if you play for the cowboys you're instantly a better football player or if your last name is Earnhart you're automatically a good racecar driver. Whatever. It's your right as an American LA.

| I go by rational thinking, Smith has needed miracle comeback wins to beat guys who are his best wins, can't count on that all the time. That win over Kennedy was Tim's first fight of his career, and even if you say it was Scott's third, it was how long ago? And though I like Kennedy he's more like Simpson.
Santiago isn't a real fighter? if anyone listed isn't a rea MMA fighter it's Cunf Le

| http://www.sherdog.com/events/GC-20-Gladiator-Challenge-20-1928I was thinking I had seen them together. Went to this to support My buddy Ruiz back in the day. It's crazy, Warpath and Jara were the only guys I had even heard of on the card back then and only because Warpath was the new freakshow and Jara I saw before and remembered. Smith had KO'd Jara a month or two before this event. Gladiator Challenge used to be so tight to go to in 2003-2006. People weren't as smart and used to fight vicious raw. | |

| No, I said Saniago isn't. Just being petty and poking fun at a typo of yours.
They are similar fighters. Many of Leben's wins are comebacks too. Terry Martin was slapping him stupid until the comeback, Smith destroyed him instantly.
Anyway I don't care to break Leben down or anything, this was a thread to talk him up. Smith and Leben are palette swap clones anyway. Who is better, Ken or Ryu, who cares, they're both epic slugfesters.
I think we both deserve that neg for getting nasty over some Scott Smith vs Chris Leben debate. My bad LA. This was kind of nerdish.

| Gladiator Challenge was gangster. I feel sad that the UFC has kind of taken all the talent away from everyone in the last three years. MMA used to be so different. | |

| Yeah shit used to be pretty dope, good cheap fights were common in Nor Cal and Central Valley Cal. Palace Fighting Championships/Tachi Palace Fights, Gladiator Challenge and Pure Combat are all about on equal footing aroun central California. WEC and SF used to be like them also but are next tier in terms of their pricing and product now. Fights are still usually good but I don't go nearly as often as I did in years past. | |

| Norcal was a haven for MMA 2004-2007 era man. Not surprising a big time promotion grew from that network of smaller ones or that the UFC looked there to purchase smaller shows. | |

| Leben vs. Smith would be a great fight. I'd pick Leben but both guys have heavy hands obviously. Both guys have a ton of heart. | |

Smith would comeback to the UFC and lose 3 straight fights. dude that video game fighter is the best san shou fighter of all time, was undefeated in MMA prior to the loss, and had beaten Frank Shamrock(question his age, but don't say he's a nobody). No one should question Le's striking ability, and Smith beat him at his own game. Also Smith has 3 epic come from behind KO's not one. 14 of his 17 wins have come by KO(compared to 11 of 20 for Leben). Again, were not looking at true greatness, but niche legendary status, ala Mickey Ward, I think Smith has the edge here.

| Weird side note, one of Le's wins is vs Sam "the squeeze" Morgan the fight was held at 185, Morgan has an W on his record vs Manny Gamburyan, who of coarse is now fighting at 145. That's a big span. Morgan is not a bad fighter, has some wins on his record, but obviously fighting above his normal weight vs Le.
Although, imo, Le looks pretty small at 185, def lacks some pop. I wonder if he could make the cut to 170.

| He is like Akiyama in that he fights right around 185.
Akiyama vs Le = dream fight stylewise for me;
They both are good strikers, but Le is better, and they're both great at hip throws, but Akiyama is better.
They'd be trying to throw eachother and take eachothers heads off for three rounds.
