Love Snatch, Brad Pitt's role is hilarious.

Sherlock Holmes was a big let down. Downey didn't do nearly as well as I thought he could have in that kind of role. The directing was horrible. Part of the problem this movie faces is the number of successful Holmes influenced franchises out there. On the one hand I think the applied too many cliches on this type of character to quickly establish Holmes from context, but on the other hand it also seemed like things got haphazard by trying to differenciate between this Holmes character and characters he inspired. In the end, Bobby Goran and Gregory House both make a better Sherlock Holmes than this Sherlock Holmes did.
The chracter is best designed for a series format, so I acknowledge the difficulty in making it work for a movie, but maybe they should have just cheated and casted Hugh Laurie as Holmes and completely owned the fact that House is partially modelled after this character.

Hugh would have been great for that part. I never even though about him as Holmes.

I didn't think Sherlock was completely horrible which surprised me given the director

I was also disappointed with Sherlock Holmes, it wasn't as funny or witty as I expected it to be. Not a bad movie though.
Watched Daybreakers last week it was nothing special.
Last night I watched Shawshank Redemption again, it really is a flawless film everything about it is superb, from the script to the score to the directing and of course to the acting. It's a fantastic movie and I am not surprised it's still in most peoples top ten lists.
Today I watched a film with Joseph Gordon Levitt called Lookout, it was a decent low budget film.

Ali "Shawshank" is fucking epic, I still dont know how Morgan Freeman did not win an academy Award for his turn as red, I remember the first time i saw the movie, when Red was reliving Brooks' footsteps outside I remember being like "no Red, dont kill yourself," then I was like oh shit its just a movie
but i still was scared he was going to kill himself thats how good his performance was, you really cared about a fictional teenage murderer who spent a long life in prison
Andy Dufrane crawled through 400 yards of shit and came out clean on the other side
man thats some good stuff
Wolf, I was also shocked with what a let down Sherlock Holmes was, not bad but no where near what i was expecting

Shawshank was nominated for seven academy awards and didn't win a single statue, the movie also bombed at the box office.

That was an infamous year at the Oscars. Forrest Gump winning best picture over Shawshank and Pulp Fiction. Get the fuck outta here

Yes, the lack of a serious script for Downey to work with was horrible.
You didn't know House was based on Sherlock Holmes BBC?
The main character in House M.D., Gregory House, is based on Sherlock Holmes, particularly with regard to drug use and his desire (and capacity) to solve the insoluble. House uses Holmesian deductive techniques to diagnose his patients' problems. References to the sleuth range from the obvious (House's apartment number being 221B) to the subtle (his friendship with Dr. James Wilson and the similarities between the names House and Holmes, and Wilson and Watson). In the very first (pilot) episode the patient's last name is Adler, and in the last episode of season two, a character named Moriarty appears and nearly kills House.

Another character that is Holmes inspired is Bobby Goran from Law and Order : Criminal Intent, the chubbish male detective.

Speaking of "House", people always say if they needed a doctor that is the one they would choose, I always disagree. Every time I watch that show, it takes him 3 or 4 times to figure out what is wrong with the patient and they almost die. I want the doctor who gets it right the first or second time please, not Mister Roll the Dice.

I don't watch House either, It's hard to take Hugh Laurie serious after all those Black Adder episodes.

I finally got around to watching Troy the other day. I was sick in the morning so I didn't go to work but when I woke up around noon I had nothing to do so I popped the 2hr 40min long movie in. Great movie, I liked it very much. I enjoyed it more then any movie I have seen in a long time.
