| http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2010/6/4/1500894/fedor-emelianenko-is-running-forBig news regarding the world's best heavyweight, Fedor Emelianenko, as it was announced that he will soon be entering the world of politics. Word first came from Middle Easy, and was shortly confirmed by this press release: The regional political council of the party "United Russia" approved the list of candidates for internal party elections - the primaries. In the list of 58 candidates. No less than 10 000 United Russia vote will determine the best, and who will receive the first place in the party list in the upcoming October elections in the Belgorod Regional Duma. The list of early voting have 24 newcomers who have never participated in elections to the legislature. One of the achievements was the inclusion in the list not only members of United Russia, but also simply to party supporters and even non-party candidates. This is for example the managing director Combine KMA Ruda Vladimir Tom and CEO JBK-1 Yuri Selivanov. They are not only members of the party, but also by working in obldume fourth convocation, not included in the United Russia Duma faction. Among the most notable candidates, in addition to the deputies (Anatolia Zelikow, Victor Filatov, Vadim Cage, Valeria Skruga, Ivan Kulabuhova, Vladimir Kulikovsky) - a famous athlete Fedor Emelianenko, the new director of Belarusian State Technological University Sergey Glagolev (by the way, non-partisan), director of the Institute of Public and municipal government BSU Alexander Mamatov. Here's the potentially bad news for those hoping to see Fedor sign with the UFC -- Rumor is that he could call it quits at the end of his Strikeforce contract: Fedor will be running for a congress seat in Russia for the pro-Kremlin party 'United Russia'. The party is dominant in the country and holds around 80% of the seats in the senate and Fedor will be representing his region. That's a fact... Now the accompanied rumor is that after Fedor fulfills the last two fights in his Strikeforce contract, he will retire from MMA. 'The Last Emperor' will be facing Fabricio Werdum this month, and possibly have a huge fight against Alistair Overeem next. Could this be the last two times we see what most people consider to be the greatest MMA fighter in history? | |

| NOt surprised. We will never see Fedor in the UFC, unless this is all some sort of publicity stunt to add more value to his upcoming fights since they could be his last. | |

| He would be a shoe in to win. He is a huge celebrity like Pudz is in Poland. He is real religious and a +values type of guy it seems also, good things for election races. Hope he doesn't though. | |

| I doubt that his political job will be a fulltime job. Show up, vote the way the money goes, keep the illusion of democracy intact using his celebrity status to gain public trust.
Crocop was a fighter and politician too.

Crocop was a fighter and politician too. How'd that work out for him? Fedor isn't dumb enough to spread himself that thin. He'll pick one and stick to it. One of the reasons Fedor is so great is the time he spends in training. He knows that

| The UFC HW division has a whole new breed of big, bad grapplers and Fedor needs to test that before he retires to cement that legacy. He bails and never steps foot in the UFC during this time of MMA evolution and there will be many that will criticize his career, including a lot that never have in the past. This isn't MMA 2004... He must take on the likes of Brock, Carwin, Cain and/or JDS before retiring to go down as the undisputed GOAT... Beating Werdum and Overeem isn't the same as beating the UFC guys. The BS that we saw a couple of years ago about Fedor ducking the UFC will be mild in comparison to what we'll see if he follows through with this... | |

Fedor has nothing more to prove himself as the GOAT. You MIGHT argue that he isn't the best right this second, but there is no way shape or form guys like Brock or Cawin can hold a candle to Fedor's resume all time. And why is it the Fedor has to prove himself to challegers. Challegers need to prove themselves against Champs. Shane has one quality win and Fedor has to prove himself to him? Usually speaking, Challegers must prove themselves worthy to face the champ and IMO the only HWs in the UFC that have are JDS and Brock and JDS isn't even in the conversation in the UFC. Clearly the UFC is deeper at all levels then everyone else but the arguement that if you arn't in the UFC, you suck, is short sited. Timmy and AA left the UFC on their own accord and have been shit canned. Hendo was the #1 challenger in the UFC and lost his first fight out of the UFC. Werdum is easily a 7-9 guy in the top 10 and Fedor fighting him is no different than Brock fighting Randy or Shane fighting GG or for that matter Mur so why the double standard? Dana is just as much to blame for this as M1. Dana coulda wraped this deal up in 07 but he didn't in favor of acting like an ass.
