| http://mmaweekly.com/fedor-emelianenko-released-by-strikeforce-following-third-loss-in-a-rowFedor Emelianenko‘s time under the Zuffa umbrella has come to an end. The former Pride champion and Russian legend has been released from Strikeforce following his third loss in a row, the latest coming by way of TKO to Dan Henderson this last weekend in Chicago. UFC president Dana White on Thursday confirmed his release to MMAWeekly.com. Emelianenko’s legendary undefeated run first came to a halt when he faced Fabricio Werdum last year, and after clipping the Brazilian early in the fight, he was submitted by triangle choke. Bouncing back earlier this year, Emelianenko entered the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix where he met Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva and was simply overmatched by power and size. The fight was stopped after the seond round as Emelianenko suffered huge swelling in and around his eye. The final nail in the coffin came at Strikeforce this weekend when he lost to current light heavyweight champion Dan Henderson in a special heavyweight attraction. Fedor dropped Henderson with a good punch, but in the scramble to finish the fight, he found himself on the bad end of a Henderson uppercut. Emelianenko went limp, falling flat to the mat and referee Herb Dean rushed in to stop the fight. The loss resulted in three in a row for Emelianenko, who stated following the fight that he was undecided what the future held for him. The future doesn’t hold Strikeforce for Emelianenko after being released. |

| Given the scratch he was pulling in, no surprise here. Still curious to see what he decides to do. Fight with Reem in Japan or something on NYE would be insane | |

| I see this as a pretty fair release. Fedor makes BIG $$$, so when he loses 3 in a row, he should expect the ax.
would a straight cut have been in order if SF still had autonomy? maybe, but a restructuring may have been in play as well.

they always offered hendo good money. he made 250k + 100k bonus for his last fight. not many fighters in the ufc can say that. not only that hendos most impressive win with them the last time he was there was the ko of bisping. other than that he went 3-2 with one of those wins being really close to a draw. also mmajunkie is hinting hendo to return to the ufc

| This is actually not a release...Dana said Fedor's contract was up anyway. They arent re-signing him..to be more exact, they arent re-signing Fedor/M-1.

| Fedor's camp says he still has 1 fight remaining with Showtime/Strikforce. If that's the case watch for him on one of the 3 remaining M-1 shows. | |

| Don't like seeing Fedor fired, even with the losses. He's earned the right to leave on his own terms. I think Dana would actually love Fedor if not for his managers. Fedor seems like one of the true good guys in the sport. Hope he lands on his feet somehow. | |

| I would have liked for Fedor to get a rematch with Werdum (Werdum will be in the UFC next so no that is done), but with Fedor making around 1.2 million from what I've read for his last fight and still Co-Pro deal in place with M-1, did we really think after 3 losses that if a new deal couldn't be worked out he'd be kept on? I don't think anyone on this board would be willing to continue that contract if they were in the same situation and a new deal couldn't be made first. | |

Earned the right? His terms? He got paid too much money and the only people who kept him relevant were old fanboys, not the new wave of MMA fans. He did very little promoting, he did very little winning and hasn't had a relevant victory since he fought Cro-Cop. He got multiple chances and a lot of money getting those chances to make a huge name for himself here and he either couldn't do it or wouldn't do it, I am actually leaning to the latter at this point. Would I have liked the Fedor of old to come to the U.S. and just keep kicking ass? No, I would have loved it. But M-1 buried the old Fedor by charging excessive fees to fight guys who had little chance of winning, so they could keep touting his record and overcharging. In short they blunted the blade, so it could no longer make the cut. So adios, enjoy the snow, and goodlife.

| Well Sylvia and AA were relevant fighters when they fought Fedor. But M-1 is the biggest culprit in any downfall to Fedor's career. | |
