| Farmer brought up a valid point here even though he doesn't realize it. Now instead of seeing quality undercard finishes we'll just see more of those types of fights - fights that shouldn't be main events in the first place. I went from passively indifferent to diametrically opposed to this idea. If this did happen, the overall main event quality at UFC PPVs might decline even further.
You want to fight in a five round fight, be in championship fights. I don't see how making shitty main events last longer fixes anything at all. Rarely does a 114 main event happen, that had title fight type hype without it. Most headliners who aren't champs are former champs in legends type matchups. We don't need more of those in place of what we really need;
Featherweight, bantamweight and flyweight title fights on PPVs.
I'd feel a lot better about ordering a PPV headlined by irrelevant past their prime fighters Rich Franklin, Chuck Liddell, Matt Hughes or whatever if a flyweight title fight was the co-main.

| Im not all out against the idea, Page Shad was an instance where I think it may have been worthy of 5 rds going in, and then think afterward that 5 rds could have helped. Both Franklin(who did not at all fall into past his prime category at the time of those fights) fights listed could have warranted it as well.
I do agree with wolf that watching a sweet undercard KO is probably more interesting then 2 extra rds of a not so riveting fight.
If they made certain fights 5 rounders I'd be cool with it, If they don't I won't be up in arms.

| Fighting for the title warrants the right to fight ten extra minutes. Being a non-title, main event fight doesn't trump and is not equal to fighting for the championship. They shouldn't be the same. Title fights are of the highest significance (in any more legitimate organization) and their altered structure denotes it. | |

not a bad argument, but I could counter by saying no other major sport changes their format in championship situations. boxing being the only similar situation, and they allow non title fights to go 12. And no one complains.

| Wanting MMA to be more like boxing has me unconvinced to be honest. I'm thankful for their differences. | |

| I wonder what kind of trickle down madness would ensue in smaller promotions if the UFC was making whatever fights they wanted five rounders. The purse for main events would increase as well. I imagine some fighters would start demanding only five round fights or on the flip side turning down main event slots due to the training camp requirements. | |

| However, if the UFC cooked up ways to create legitimate five round fights, like what they did with Carwin vs Mir, or a tournament final for some title trophy or belt as Bellator finals are, I'd be really excited about that. | |

Significant fights like those warrant it. Another thing to consider is if the main events for a regular ppv are five rounds the main event has to start at 9:xx, so your potentially bumping one of the first three fights off the show and other cool fights they often throw in.

| well the bellator(and throw sf in this mix as well) comparison imo points to 5 rd non title fights in the UFC. When should Page vs Shad be 3 rounds when Good will be fighting Askren or Hornbuckle in a 5? Gegard vs Mo was a 5. Why not a Lyoto vs lil Nog?
And good point on the UFC cooking up ways(interim title fights) to make 5 rounders.
