THE TOP 25 OF THE LAST 25 YEARS

These are always impossible but here goes. The ground rules.

Only fights that happened from 1985 on count.
Style is irrelevant. This is about accomplishment.

Picking exact numbers will make my hair hurt so in a bunch of cases I am going to put men in groups and you can rank them within that group any way you choose and I won't argue.

HERE WE GO!

1. Pernell Whittaker-Just owned 135 and 147 and beat the top guy at 154 just for grins. Fought everyone there was to fight.
2. Julio Cesar Chavez-Fought 30+ ranked guys. Some serious stuff there.
3. Evander Holyfield-Greatest cruiser ever, best heavy of his time.
4. Manny Pacquiao-TEN divisions? Are you kidding me?
5. Ricardo Lopez-Not sure I'm being entirely objective here.
6-9. Roy Jones, BHOP, Floyd Mayweather-I wish two of them had fought the better available opposition. I suspect they'd be ranked higher.
10. Erik Morales-The second best 122 of all time and the last man to beat Manny.
11-15. Oscar de la Hoya, Felix Trinidad, Marco Antonio Barerra, Azumah Nelson and James Toney-No idea the right order there.
16-19. Khaosai Galaxy, Lennox Lewis, Chiquita Gonzales, -Three more greats
20-24. Jung Koo Chang, Kosta Tzyu, Rafael Marquez, Joe Calzaghe, Michael Nunn-Running out of room
25. Pick one of Johnny Tapia, Ivan Calderon, Shane Mosely, Juan Manuel Marquez, Naseem Hamed, Ponsaklek Wonjonkam, Michael Carbajal, Yuri Arbachakov and you can't go wrong.

Manny not yet, BHop is subjective, Floyd probably, and Roy more than likely

That is such a tough list to argue with. I see no problems with it Marble. I might have just lumped in Morales with Barrera and ODH but hey I cant argue.

I am convinced I will never see anything like Pernell Whitaker again

every 3 or 4 years there is supposedly going to be a new Whitaker, like Casamayor, Ledwaba, Zab (somehow got this claim) etc. But I am convinced we wont see one

It's all about what criteria one values. If you prize technical excellence, dominant performances and flash? Floyd and Roy would have to be higher. If you value beating the best available guys over and over again? You'rte probably closer to my list.

But it's not like there is a right answer here.
