Liked or not, I still don't think he would have gotten thrown in the middle of the shitstorm. The government would know Ali would be much better used in a promotional-type assignment.

I think one of the key questions is do you believe conceptually in the idea of "conscientious objection?" Do you believe Quakers, Amish, Mennonites etc, pacifist churches all, should be exempt from military service based on sincere religous belief?

I think if were going to choose to allow religion to play such an important role in society then we need to respect the religions beliefs (except for the ones that want to kill us!)
