Thank you sir, these kind of things are what make discussion boards, otherwise they'd be everyone agrees boards.

Werdum is a giant Leites/Maia, Fedor is a giant Anderson.
Except Fedor will just knock him the fuck out.
If Fedor got a career's worth of these fights, he'd be Chuck Liddell. Zing!

That said, Werdum would a lot tougher a matchup for a lot of HW's out there.
It is funny that on paper this is such a mismatch when Werdum maybe the best submission HW in MMA right now with his ADCC pedigree and has shown decent, improving striking to the point he used it to beat Gonzaga. I don't know how Fedor can be criticized for this fight from a Pro-UFC slant when both Anderson and GSP have both taken similar mismatches for title opponents recently.

This has a bit of a shields hendo element to it. But the quota on one dimensional fighters beating all time greats is probably filled for 2010.

It has a bit of a Liddill Ortiz 1-2, Liddell Couture 1-3, Liddell Babalu 1-2, Liddell Horn 1-2, ect element to it, with less chance of Fedor suffering a flukish chokeout or gnp loss to a fighter he is better than on any other night.

winning a decision is his best chance honestly. using leg kicks to keep fedor at bay and do damage, setting up the takedown. Stay in half guard and try and punch, staying busy, waiting for oppourtunitys but fighting smart to maintain position. Werdum should play the position game and look for a LnP decision.

No UFC champions would have fought as many legitimate top ten'rs in a row. 4 USA today or Sherdog top ten fights in a row.
Sorry but Cote, Leites and Hardy were barely top ten when they fought for the title if at all. At least Werdum is a legitimate proven top ten fighter, and not some flash in the pan KO artist with no ground game like Cote and Hardy. Cruz, Aldo, Edgar, and Machida are all too new to have that many top ten fights in a row.
No one at HW has a resume close to Fedor's last four counting this.
Brock has a loss and two somewhat questionable top ten wins. Carwin has one. Cain has one. Dos Santos has one.

They have a good tournament set up here. The winner of this fight takes on the winner of Rogers vs Overeem. It is either a high profile rematch with Rogers or a fresh challenge for Fedor, and either fight is marketable and will do well for SF.

It might do well, but it fails in comparison to Fedor vs Brock. I might say Fedor vs Overeem has the potential to be comparable to Fedor vs Cain, JDS, Carwin, or even Mir.

Of course, but Carwin Mir and Carwin Brock fail in comparison to Fedor Brock. Two way failstreet.
At least the champs are all fighting guys we're able to justify barely squeezing into the top ten due to lack of depth immediately(like a fight) before they fight them for their titles.
Wait that sucks.
Fedor, UFC, get this shit done. 35 year old balding engineers and mohawked tire techs need to stay the fuck out of all these title fights. Fuck.

I don't mind the balding engineer or the tire tech, cause both guys have looked badass in beating long time MMAers.
but it will be a shame if both Fedor and Brock continue on dominant path's which do not cross.

As long as they're paved with second year MMA rookies with ten fights, a house payment and a career outside of fighting, they will never lose.

true neither guy has gone through a gauntlet to earn a title shot, but they both have beaten former UFC champs who are long time MMAers, so the tire tech/engineer criticism loses validity.

Besides them, who else have they beaten?
Devil's advocate here. I like both and rank em top ten. But perspective is required.

And who did King Mo,Lietes, Dan Hardy, Cote, Flo etc beat? None of those guys beat former champs on their way to title shots. unearned title shots are not relegated to the heavy division. just as they are not relegated to sf.
still both heavy title fights are compelling.

Good point, but other than Mo who wouldn't get one in the UFC yet, none of those guys really deserved their shots either - as evidenced by the fiascos for fights that ensued.
