PostSubject: My Top 10 Fighters of the Past 20 Years   My Top 10 Fighters of the Past 20 Years EmptyMon May 03, 2010 11:18 pm

cause of Timthebims question

1. Pernell Whitaker - unhittable in his peak, Maybe the best lightweight ever. Won titles at 135,140, 147, 154.
2. Floyd Mayweather - ya I think he is know
3. Roy Jones Jr - not high on him so i have a hard time ranking him.
4. James Toney - Beast of a middle and super middle. Give me the "Im gonna break your fucking bones" James Toney at middle all day.
5. Julio Cesar Chavez - man was a body punching grinder
6. Manny Pacquiao - I think this is about where he should be.
7. Evander Holyfield - the guy beat all the top fighters of his era
8. Ricardo Lopez - retired as undefeated champion. Enough said.
9. Bernard Hopkins - top middleweight of the era (yet I think prime Toney beats him). Huge wins all over the palce from Middle to Light Heavy.
10. Oscar De La Hoya - yep Im ranking the Golden Boy higher than Tito.
11. Felix Trinidad - Just that much higher! Supreme Welterweight (undefeated as one in his prime) with major power. I think Oscar did more with his career hence the ranking.
12. Lennox Lewis - the other Heavyweight of the era that fought almost everybody.
13. Big GEORGE FOREMAN - ya thats right, George was still top 15, who woulda thought.
14. Shane Mosley - almost out of my top 15 honestly
15. Mike Tyson - someones gonna cry foul on this one. But dont waste your time. Im right. drunken

Honorable Mention - Meldrick Taylor, Riddick Bowe, Joe Calzaghe, Michael Moorer, Vernon Forrest,

I know but I think Morales got the raw deal in the 2nd decision and actually won the first ( I know Im crazy)

also not including the Barrera Morales fights

Morales had wins over Paulie Ayala and Pacquiao to name a few

Barrera had Naseem Hamed and Kevin Kelley (a dam near dead Kevin Kelley), and a gone Tapia

I think Morales by a slight bit

Without being a boxing aficionado, shouldn't Floyd, B-Hop, Pac and Roy all be top 5

Pac is damn close

Shane is tough yes he was the legit champ at 135 but he fought Adrian Stone's and got away with it (I cant imagine what people would say if Floyd fought Shanes comp at 135)

wins biggest fight than drops 2 to Vernon and has never regained the placing that he once had (Pound for Pound number 1)

BHOP is top 10 and could move up a little more but the problem was from Roy Jones (1994) to Felix Trinidad (2001) he didnt have a huge win, alot of good solid ones, but nothing huge.

good question LA

1- Pernell Whitaker
2- Floyd Mayweather (if he beats Manny he vaults to the top of this list)
3- Roy Jones Jr
4- Manny Pacquiao
5- Bernard Hopkins
6- Ricardo Lopez (would have been higher if he had moved up and beat Carbajal or Chiquita Gonzalez. Strawweight was a wasteland for a good portion of his reign)
7- James Toney
8- Oscar DeLaHoya
9- Julio Cesar Chavez
10- Shane Mosley
11- Marco Antonio Barrera
12- Felix Trinidad
13- Erik Morales
14- Lennox Lewis
15- Evander Holyfield

You could also throw in Terry Norris in at 14 or 15.

And a kick in the groin for anyone with Kostya Tszyu on their list. Very Happy

In no particular order... Hopkins, Roy Jones, Mayweather, Lewis, De La Hoya, Whitaker, Chavez, Holyfield, Trinidad, Pacquiao and Carbajal (11 because Michael is a sentimental favorite... Loved this little guy)

great list and all are outstanding fighters..my thoughts is big george isnt on that list dispite a great comback he had performances that were so so.morrison briggs shultz etc..non the less he did market himself beautifully and started out fighting on espn and him winning the title after 20 years from his first one i doubt will ever happen again..in no peticular order id keep your top 15 minues george and add morales and barrera to make it either 16 or a tie lol for number 15..great selection given with lots of thought.

thanks Dmar its always ahrd when you do something like this, I just think George did enough to solidify himself as still being one of the best fighters giving Holyfield a fight and beating Moorer

your right though i shouldve probably made room for Morales and Barrera

I'm not really sure how I can argue with this much? I do think Manny has accomplished more than Floyd for example. But for the most part it's the right names we are just quibbling about minor order changes.
