Wow... All of this because Wolf didn't care for the flick? I rarely come to his defense... In fact I'm not sure I ever have. But I feel the same way about the movie. Visually, it was an amazing effort... But the story was really weak. No imagination whatsoever, but rather a platform for a tree hugging director to tell the whole world how messed up we all or for not going out and planting a tree a day. I guess in this case you can all group me in with Wolfy.

I don't think it has anything to do with the movie, if you get a chance to take a shot at Wolfy you take it. No serious shit talking just a little playful jabs.

Well, I have taken MANY, MANY shots at Wofly myself... But I didn't see anything out of line from him about the movie. It was the highest selling flick of all-time, and I'm asking my wife why she wasted the 25 or 30 bucks buying it. Most overrated all-time?... Maybe not. But in my opinion it definitely gives Titanic a run for that title...
I guess I just take shots when necessary rather than whenever simple opportunity presents itself... Carry on then...
Easy to follow makes for a great movie nowadays? That means the 90% of crap you're talking about falls into that category. That script could have been written by a high school drama student for crying out loud. I'll say it again... In my opinion, humans laying waste to their own planet and then venturing off to destroy other planets does not make for a great or original concept in movie making regardless of special effects. Again, I understand the room considering that most of the people around here think that "Step Brothers" is movie making genius... But Avatar is VERY overrated. Give it all the Oscars in the world for special effects and whatever categories might fall under that area, but no one is selling me on that movie as being an all-time great.
alot of movies are just trying to get too crazy with twist and turns to try to keep you thinking. Problem is they are making the stories too confusing and thus people cant really follow the story.
And as for the Avatar story, if it was reality would you really put it past us to do something like that?

Aren't special effects part of what make movies great? Personally, I really enjoyed the creatures on the planet and the concept of growing an avatar to fit a human's DNA so that they can "drive" the avatar. I thought the movie had a lot of pluses and very few minuses. The storyline may have been elementary, but this movie appealed to me in many more ways than just an engaging story.

Sure, special effects are a part of what makes a movie... A part. The elementary script and it's uber obvious agenda is what turned me off. There were some interesting twists, but for the hype it may have been the most predictable movie I have seen. Everything that happened you could see coming a mile away. I thought the movie was okay, but the hype and the billions in sales left me scratching my head. To each their own, but I wouldn't be disappointed if I never saw it again...

Come on LikesToFight, Avatar is way better than Titanic. Stephan Lang steals the movie as Col.Quaritch
+
Was it?... I thought both were average efforts, yet they both had astronomical ticket sales and were hyped to no end. As far as being overrated, I'd say they are 1a and 1b... Just my opinion...
the further i get from seeing that movie in 3-d the more I think it was a stupid movie. No way I watch a sequel. The story from the 1st movie was kindergarten, the sequel would be unbearable.

Once the banal eye candy wears off, Avatar is almost embarrassing. Praising that movie while defending it by attacking its critics for having no attention span is like attacking a critic of McDonalds by saying he has an unsophisticated palette. Avatar is all flash and eye candy for a braindead generation, entertained by flashy things and not depth.
Once in 3d was plenty enough, just like captain said.
The Lord of the Rings are everything Avatar is not. The LOTR's are without a doubt my favorite movies ever. I love long movie epics, and that is something Avatar hardly resembles. Long doesn't mean deep. Long doesn't mean epic. On that same token, Bigs did you find LOTRs boring by chance?
Fact is, Avatar is mediocre to bad sci-fi with the most expensive special effects ever. If you like Avatar, you like it because of the special effects, and that is fine. Just be honest with yourself. Don't make Avatar more than it is.
It is good clean moron fun. Problem is, it is being confused for something other than that. We now live in a bizarro universe where Van Helsing or 300 is elevated to "best movie ever" status. I like those movies for what they are, but if they were as gigantic as Avatar, the main taste in my mouth would be how overrated they were.
Thanks for the support LTFG, even if you've been a kitten who I capitulated over a year ago now.

Umm, yeah...
Seriously Wolf, your recent maturization and mellowing is a welcome one and I always enjoyed the wit even when I was at the receiving end of some nastiness. It's almost a pleasure to have discussions with you any more. I was hesitant to engage too much at first waiting for the punchline or proverbial bomb to drop and ensuing week long battle... But I'm convinced that you're a changed man. If it's marriage and family that have spearheaded the change, give thanks to the family from the majority of us...

Not at all. I love LOTR, books and movies.
Your opinion of Avatar is way off, though. Sure, it's not an epic like LOTR but that neither is any other movie made since.
