Stamford, Conn. – December 9, 2013 – NBCSN will televise four hours of top-level boxing coverage Saturday beginning at 8 p.m. ET with Fight Night live on NBCSN. Following live boxing, NBCSN presents the television debut of the critically-acclaimed and award-winning documentary The Good Son: The Ray Mancini Story at 10 p.m. ET.

THE GOOD SON: THE RAY MANCINI STORY – 10 P.M. ET ON NBCSN

Directed by Jesse James Miller and based on the book of the same name by Mark Kriegel, the documentary tells the story of Ray ‘Boom Boom’ Mancini, whose lightweight world championship was an accomplishment his father aspired to before him, and whose fatal 14-round victory over Korean boxer Duk-Koo Kim led to the decline of Mancini’s budding career.

Mancini’s nickname ‘Boom Boom’ originated from his father, Lenny, whose boxing career and championship dreams were dashed after severe injury in World War II. The younger Ray ‘Boom Boom’ emerged as a national hero from Youngstown, Ohio, winning in 1982 the title his father sought years earlier.

The Good Son chronicles the extraordinary history of both Mancini and Kim as well as the personal developments three decades after the fight that ended Kim’s life, including Mancini’s grief, guilt, retirement and subsequent redemption as he meets Ji Wan, Kim’s son who was born shortly after the fight. The documentary also includes interviews with Kim’s fiancé Young-Mi, The Good Son author Kriegel, former boxer and actor Mickey Rourke and actor and Youngstown native Ed O’Neill.

The Good Son won numerous awards including first-place at the ShadowBox Film Festival and was entered in the Hamptons International and Philadelphia Film Festivals. The Good Son makes its television premiere Saturday at 10 p.m. ET on NBCSN.
