HBO has apparently decided not to wait for the result of the fight between Tomasz Adamek (39-1, 27 KOs) and Jason Estrada (16-2, 4 KOs) and has proposed to the Pole’s manager Ziggy Rozalski that the next opponent for his fighter be Chris Arreola (28-1, 25 KOs). The battle will probably take place at one of the Southern California casinos on April 24. The bout will select a serious candidate for a heavyweight title.
Adamek-Arreola will be the main event of the show televised by HBO, provided that the heavyweight from Poland leaves the ring as a winner after the bout against Estrada scheduled in Newark on the February 6. It seems that the HBO plan concerns leading Adamek to a championship fight as early as in 2010. Defeating Arreola will definitely help “Góral” to gain higher ranking positions especially on the WBO and IBF lists on which Wladimir Klitschko’s surname appears in the champion’s place. The Ukrainian fighter comes face-to-face with Eddie Chambers on the March 20 in Germany so the propability of boxing against Adamek in the near future seems to be quite high.
“The date isn’t ideal – after the fight against Estrada I will have less than four weeks to get some rest but we just couldn’t refuse HBO. We wanted it, after all,” said Adamek. “My advantage will be the fact that I’ll have been already partially prepared, I won’t start from scratch. First and foremost I must perfectly carry out the plan before the fight on the February 6. The bout against Arreola will open my road to the title. HBO directors certainly will observe me carefully in Newark but I’m sure they already know what they should expect when I enter a ring.”
