- Heavyweight contender Tomasz Adamek will face the Domincan Republic's Nagy Aguilera on NBC Sports Network's Fight Night on March 24 at the Aviator Sports Complex in Broooklyn, New York, his promoter, Kathy Duva, of Main Events told RingTV.com on Wednesday.
Adamek (44-2, 28 knockouts) is attempting to rebound against Aguilera (17-6, 12 KOs) from a 10th-round stoppage loss to WBC titleholder Vitali Klitschko that ended his run of 13 straight victories in September.
Aguilera is coming off a third-round knockout of Stacy Frazier that ended a three-fight losing streak, capped by Aguilera's third-round stoppage loss to Chris Arreola in May of last year.
Adamek, who vanquished Arreola by majority decision in April of 2010, will face Aguilera on the under card of an IBF eliminator between former betlholder Zab Judah and unbeaten junior welterweight Vernon Paris.
"Aguilera is a perfect opponent to get Tomasz back into the ring and shake the rust off," said Duva of Adamek, whose only other loss was by decision to Chad Dawson as a light heavyweight in 2007.
"As an incredibly active fighter during the past few years, Adamek performs at this best when he can fight frequently. We plan to bring him back in June."
Also on the card is heavyweight Sergei Liakhovich (25-4, 16 KOs), who will meet Philadelphia's Bryant Jennings (12-0, 5 KOs).
"Adamek had told us, previously, that he didn’t want to fight until June. So we offered him a fight for June. Then he said that he wanted to get into the ring as early as March just a couple of weeks ago," said Duva.
"So we agreed to put him on our March 24th NBC show that had already been planned with Jab Judah vs. Vernon Paris in the main event and Sergei Liakhovich vs. Bryant Jennings in the co-feature. NBC generously offered to give us enough time to make this show a triple-header." http://ringtv.craveonline.com/blog/171617-adamek-aquilera- |
