| The fact that Silva has had to face very weak competition in the past is not a great argument for Weidman getting a shot now. | |

Then I'll ask she same question I asked before. Why is Weidman being held to a higher standard? Is he suppose to blame the UFC for not highlighting his wins good enough? Because you can see his argument. His quality of work in the cage make him as worthy as any. His resume is good enough that Dana presented the fight to Spider's camp. Good enough that it was a realistic expectation that his next fight would be for the title.

- Weidman is perhaps the most worthy. But is he worthy? Did he really "earn" a fight with Anderson? Silva is 36(?) and is a no doubt top 3 all timer. He is not say Ben Henderson who just recently won the belt, Silva has defended that thing numerous times. He has earned some level of discretion imo. If he's not interested in fighting a relative newb, I can accept that.
And I'll be honest, I really didn't know who Weidman was until after the Munoz fight. And for someone who follows MMA pretty closely(not as much recently but still pretty closely) to not know who he is, that backs Silva's point.
Dana just needs to get Weidman a nice spot on an upcoming card. Then Weidman needs to impress again, and the pressure for Silva to take the fight will really start to build. And the hype will be that much bigger.
If you didn't know who Wiedman was before the Munoz fight you haven't been paying attention much at all. Chris is more deserving than three of Silva's last four opponents. Demian Maia had just lost to Nate Marquardt and come back to beat Dan Miller when he replaced Vitor at UFC112. Vitor hadn't fought at Middleweight in almost three years. Yushin was on the comeback trail after Chael Sonnen, but Munoz was still considered a prospect and Marquardt was only one fight removed from the thrashing Chael gave him as well.

Well as I acknowledged I haven't paid as much attention recently. still I am a real MMA fan. And I knew nothing of Weidman. Further Maia didn't really deserve the fight, but he had made a name in BJJ circles and that does count. Vitor is a big name and was coming down in weight, I, as well as others afford guys leverage when coming down in weight. Finally, and this goes towards OU as well, because Silva has accepted lesser challengers in the past does not mean he should again now. In fact, at an older age I afford him more discrection.
