Please tell me u arent 1 of those guys saying Spider is scared or ducking? I wouldn't use those terms. But yes, he is avoiding the Weidman fight because he doesn't think Chris is worthy. Even if Dana does. He is making sure Chris has to fight 1 more time before getting his shot.

| I dont have a problem with him waiting on Weidman. Nobody knows who Chris is besides die hards. There isnt much for Anderson to prove with him right now. | |

I won't find you one that says that directly, but I suppose I can show you the quotes I'm referring to that I'm surprised you haven't seen. http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/8/2/3214214/ufc-anderson-silva-management-turns-down-jon-jones-chris-weidman-mma-news - Quote :
I mean, because he had an impressive win over Mark Munoz and [Demian] Maia? Sure. - Soares
Well, there was a little lack of communication. I spoke to Tatame in Brazil and something got lost in translation. I have a lot of respect for [Chris] Weidman. He's a great fighter. What I meant was that the fight doesn't make sense. He has like 9 fights - impressive fights. But it's half of what Anderson..the number of fights Anderson has in the UFC. I think he's just a little not ripe enough, but it's up to the organization to tell who is a good opponent for Anderson. I think he'd be hard to promote. Now everyone is coming out like they saw Chael Sonnen. [Sonnen] did a great job promoting himself and the fight. Now a lot of people are coming forward. Obviously, everyone wants a title shot. - Guimaraes
On if the UFC had offered the fight with Weidman
Well, they mentioned it, but we don't think it made sense. - Guimaraes

- "At the end of the day, it's difficult to find an opponent that can fight Anderson," manager Ed Soares told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). "There's not a ton of them out there."
"I don't think any opponent in that category is a joke," Soares said. "I just think that some of his opponents just aren't as attractive. When I look at Weidman, I think he's a very talented guy. He's got a bright future. But when I look at it, he's 9-0. Anderson has got double the wins he has in his career in the UFC. So I just don't see the value of being able to fight a guy like this right now. That's my opinion."
"The only guy that Rich Franklin has ever lost to at 185 pounds is Anderson," Soares said. "So when you look at the 185-pound division, he's definitely up in the mix as far as a contender. I think [Silva would] be interested in fighting Franklin again, just simply because he respects Rich a lot, and he feels that Rich was the guy that gave him the opportunity to fight for the belt." Somewhere on here are quotes from Anderson himself. But I didn't find it with a quick search.

| You can ignore the facts all you want. Anderson isn't fighting until 2013 because he doesn't think their is a worthy challenger. It has nothing to do with his ability to take a fight. Proof of that, he was willing to fight at LHW on 8 days notice. He isn't hurt, he isn't tired, he is just waiting because he and his camp don't think anyone is worthy of a title shot.
His camp has come put multiple times now and said Weidman isn't worthy of the fight. They also said the fight was mentioned to them by Dana.

| There isn't any facts just opinions and comments from his management team.
A mega fight with GSP trumps every single MW fight out there. |

A mega fight with GSP trumps every single MW fight out there. Anderson and his camp have both commented on the Weidman fight. You are behind on the subject and just now seeing old information. It's a fact that Chris Weidman fight is out there for Anderson to take. It's a fact that Dana White has brought this fight up to Anderson Silva's management. It's a fact that Anderson doesn't think Chris Weidman is deserving of a title shot. It's a fact that he is able to fight again this year but is waiting because he doesn't see a fight worth taking right now. Spin how you want, these are not opinions.

| I'm totally cool with Silva thinking Weidman needs another win.
Silva's reign as champ is littered with opponents who were no where near his level. He obviously does not get properly motivated for those fight. He wins easily(though perhaps not with a scintillating finish) and still gets criticised.
But now Weidman's name is out there, there some controversy in terms of Silva not wanting to fight, he's undefeated and coming off a very impressive win. Let him follow that up with another impressive win, hopefully with more fans watching, so that this can build, and then we have a fight with some juice.
And linking any of this to his desire to fight in order to save the 151 card is unfair.

He is certainly able to defend the belt again this year if he wanted to. You can use his wiliness to fight on 8 days notice to prove he is capable of fighting again this year.

| Anderson specifically said he would fight another LHW because he isn't in fight shape to cut to MW and that he would want to fight a LHW who has not been in camp so it would be even in terms of preparation. He is able to fight, but it's two different scenarios of a fight when compared to the prospect of defending the 185 title. | |

It's August, he wasn't in shape to fight at 185 on 8 days notice. But he is obviously healthy or he wouldn't be able to fight at all. So he can obviously fight again this year since there is more then enough time to have a full camp. He is obviously capable of defending his title again this year. This does proves that.

Then Anderson said he would just take some time off and not fight again until 2013. Personal choice. I'm just pointing out that there is a fight out there for him and he is healthy and able to accept that fight. But he isn't, he is choosing not to fight and taking time off.

Yes, he can take all the time off he wants. But I'm just pointing out the facts and the chain of events. Anderson could fight Chris Weidman if he wanted to. The UFC is willing, Chris is willing, Anderson is not. Fact.

There aren't any bigger fights. Rockhold is stuck in Strikeforce, Jon Jones is fighting in a month, and GSP won't be available until after the new year. Chris earned his shot.

But I guess there are others that are in agreement with the Spider camp. They don't think Chris deserves a shot right now so they would rather wait and not fight until they get a fight they feel is worthy.

| Weidman is perhaps the most worthy. But is he worthy? Did he really "earn" a fight with Anderson? Silva is 36(?) and is a no doubt top 3 all timer. He is not say Ben Henderson who just recently won the belt, Silva has defended that thing numerous times. He has earned some level of discretion imo. If he's not interested in fighting a relative newb, I can accept that.
And I'll be honest, I really didn't know who Weidman was until after the Munoz fight. And for someone who follows MMA pretty closely(not as much recently but still pretty closely) to not know who he is, that backs Silva's point.
Dana just needs to get Weidman a nice spot on an upcoming card. Then Weidman needs to impress again, and the pressure for Silva to take the fight will really start to build. And the hype will be that much bigger.

Well as I mentioned before, I don't see how Weidman is any less deserving than any MW title contender...pretty much ever. I think his resume in the UFC is comparable to them all. I'll agree that putting Munoz vs Weidman on FUEL was a dumb business move, especially when Munoz was in line as the next contender. If more people got to see that pure domination then maybe Chris has his title shot? Who knows.
