Can Chael sell PPVs not fighting Spider?

Interesting question that popped up. I think his ability to sell PPVs plummets badly when he is not fighting Spider. Don't see him selling well as a headliner in a non title fight and not fighting Spider. Your thoughts?

Chael has never headlined a PPV where he wasn't fighting Anderson. Not sure he would sell too well as the headline when he isn't fighting for the title or against Andy.

I say above average, considering his ability to talk like a wrassler and the fact that he has a cult following... get a small sample of that on this board!

Yeah he got alot of hype for this specific matchup and the trash talk directed at Anderson. But was there really that much buzz for his other matchups? I know there was sum, but it wasn't anything special IMO.

I thought he did well selling the Bisping fight with the short notice. IDK, I guess time will tell

I don't think that FOX card did near as well as they were hoping.

Maybe if he fought Vitor or Rashad.

How well would you expect those to do? As the headline of a PPV. It could be decent, but IMO neither one would be anything special when it come to PPV buys. IMO in those fights Chael wouldn't be the main draw. I think both Vitor and Rashad would be the ones selling the PPVs more then Chael.

I think Bisping vs Sonnen rematch could sell decent on PPV as a headliner. They would both talk the talk, then you have the 1st fight being very close. I guess maybe if he fought a Brazilian like Vitor or even Wand it could sell since it could be like a carryover beef from the hype leading up to the Spider fight. But those are the only situations I could see where it could do above average buys.

Jew has alot to say pre-fight, so he will be the 2nd one to go. Time is ticking.

What if Chael is now toned down thanks to Renzo Gracie? Will people still buy his PPVs without his gimmick?

He's gotten a lot of casual exposure so that counts for something.

I know casuals that were interested in him for this specific matchup. But I honestly beleive they will be fair weather followers and will mostly disappear. That's the feeling I get.

Losing again definitely takes a hit, but some will still have the benign interest to possibly check him out over someone better like Aldo who they are not aware of.

What a sad truth. If people were only educated just a little bit they would never, ever watch a Sonnen fight over an Aldo fight. Sonnen seems to attract fans that are much like him, fake. They won't even remember his name in 6 months. He was that guy that fought Anderson. I think Sonnen fan is also a fan of Brock and Kos.

I think it depends on who he's fighting. If it's someone like Brian Stann don't expect much. He flat out refused to say anything bad about Stann. He's only comfortable playing the heel when it's "America vs..." type fights. If he fights any non american he can talk it up well but when it comes to countrymen he'll keep his mouth shut.

Fell for the Brocktober trick even after the Carwin fight, and totally spell struck by Sonnen by the second Silva fight. One of them is even a hardcore who I told on Saturday and at Cain vs Lesnar that he really should know better. I took all their moneys on those fights.

I guarantee there is a major overlap. Farmer here is a prime example. Same goes for Jewzilla.
