NCAA national champion and 2008 Olympic wrestler Steve Mocco tells Joe Show Radio he finally made the "whirlwind decision" to transition to mixed martial arts (MMA) after helping out at the American Top Team (ATT) gym prior to last month's UFC 146 pay-per-view (PPV) event in Las Vegas. At 30 years old, Mocco will have to play "beat the clock" if he hopes to make any kind of serious impact among the current crop of heavyweight hurters.

I like Mocco, and think he's a great wrestler, but it will be interesting to see how he is able to make the transition at the age of 30. He is also a short heavyweight, I think about 6'0 and was never known for being explosive, like Cormier or Cain. The one thing I know is that he has an incredible work ethic and will train like a madman. It will be interesting to see him out there and see if he can strike effectively and wrestle effectively, since he was never known for shooting on people's legs.

I've watched Mocco from when he was in school at Blair Academy.
