Lombard's tiny trex looing arms couldn't connect with Forrest's reach (jab & leg kicks).
Lombard's reach is only one inch shorter than Jeremy Horn's, who knocked Forrest out.
W a kick.
But Lombard's short reach will be a factor. Especially against Silva.
Fine, his reach is only two inches shorter than Rashad's, who knocked Forrest the fuck out with punches.
Against Silva yes his reach would be a problem, but we're discussing Forrest. I see no reason why Lombard can't bulldoze inside and lay Griffin the fuck out especially since Forrest lacks the kind of one punch power that would force Lombard to think twice about doing it.

I could see both fighters winning based on various performances over their careers. If Forrest were to win, it would be due to his reach keeping Lombard at bay.

Don't underestimate midget strength. Lombard is like a one inch shorter Hendo who hits harder.
They list Hendo 2 inches taller. But if you have the barefoot back to back. I bet Hendo is 3+ inches taller. Maybe Hector being so stacked just makes him look that much shorter.

In his first fight? Based on how most big name imports do against top names in their first fight he'd lose most of these bouts. If he got some experience and acclimated to the UFC, then I could see him winning some of these fights too. I like Lombard but I am gonna pick most of the fighters on this list over him out of the gate.
If has jitters, this list stands. But like I said, if not, and he fights to his full potential he'd win some of these. At his best he could win any of these. Would he? Fights where I would flat pick him to win at his best :
Okami W - Okami is solid and well rounded but not enough power and chin to survive. Weidman W - I don't think he's experienced enough yet, but this is a close fight based on his wrestling prowess alone. Philippou W - Not enough experience. Bostech W - LOL Pallhares W - This is almost a pickem, but I don't think he's gonna get his leglock game going on the stocky Lombard. Judo players however are at higher risk for leglocks than BBJ guys Belchar W - close because he is a huge MW with technical striking. Lets see how he looks after this layoff. Franklin W - Close because Franklin is a legend, but I see his durability and reflexes being an issue at his age. Bisping W - I would be very torn between this fight. I like Mike and think he is way better than some still give him credit for, but at the end of the day I think Lombard's power and Mike's chin don't match up well. Munoz W - Munoz could beat him by being well rounded, setting up takedowns with strikes, and strikes with takedowns, but I'd go Lombard via sprawl-KO.
Where I would pick him to lose at his best :
Silva L - t-rex went extinct. Sonnen L - Until he shows me his true takedown D against wrestlers chael gets the nod here like he does against everyone. Belfort L - Belfort has the reach and handspeed, but this fight turns real ugly for Belfort if he has one of his typical performances where he falls off after failing to win early. Stann L - I think he is better standing, but this fight really hinges on the takedown defense of Stann holding up if Lombard decides to take him down. I may switch this before fight time.
Wanderlei L - Soccer kicks to the soul.
The fights in italicizes are matches I'd only go 60/40 in right now.

"Yeah, it would make sense. The guy has won, I think it’s 25 fights in a row or something like that. If he comes right into the UFC, main events and knocks out Stann, it makes sense."

Bisping is pissed
"(Hector Lombard getting a title shot if he beats Brian Stann) does piss me off a little bit, you know? I’ve been slugging away in the UFC for six years now, fighting the best guys in the world, and just because Hector Lombard’s been knocking out part-time fighters who probably hold down jobs full-time and he’s been knocking out people that I haven’t got a clue who they are, I haven’t even heard of them, you know, while I’ve been knocking out the best fighters in the world and fighting the best consistently for six years and he’s going to come in from knocking out John the baker from around the corner and you know, he gets a title shot?"
“I’m never going to get a title shot. Every time I get on cusp of it, I put together a good win streak and then I lose by a decision that maybe I think I should have won, but that’s down to me. I can’t blame my opponents for that, I should try to take them out and beat them too it, that’s what I’m trying to do. Now I’m fighting Tim Boetsch.
"I think I’m still in the mix up there. I definitely haven’t gone down. I definitely think I’m one of the top few. I think I could give Anderson a good fight ... I definitely think I’ll get my shot soon.”
“I’ve watched the fight (vs. Chael Sonnen at UFC on FOX 2 on Jan. 28 in Chicago) several times and every time I watch it I think I’ve won ... But listen, I’m not gonna cry and complain about it. It was a close fight, I think I won rounds one and two, he definitely got round three. So judges, whatever, they maybe favor the takedowns a bit much, I think the general consensus is that I won."

I can see why he is mad. He has been in the UFC for years and has been fighting at a high level in big fights. However, Lombard KO's fools with ridiculous power and a sick ground and pound game. This means he is more marketable and a bigger perceived threat to Silva. Mike's got some TKO's, but he isn't nearly as dangerous. Stylistically, Lombard offers a realer threat to Silva.
I still think if they were to fight right now, the current Bisping might be the best fighter Hector ever fought. That said, I'll be the first to admit I have been too hard on Lombard's record as of late. Vitale, Doerksen, Prangley and Taylor could all be in the lower third of the UFC and win fights. Rivera, Akiyama, Dan Miller, Kang etc are only marginally better overall. Lombard would knock any of them dudes to kingdom come.

The problem here is While Michael was facing more known fighters he wasn't always facing "better" fighters, and the biggest problem is Michael spent a solid year and a half or so before he stopped being so afraid of being laid out again that he actually sat down on his punches. Lombard is more marketable and his trip to the UFC is long overdue. Between the two of them I give Lombard a chance to beat Anderson just because he's willing to do the only thing he can to win the fight, which is go batshit and throw hands without feat of the counter.

Sonnen would argue, he did fight for the title on FOX. He lost. Andy is next in line.

Straying away from his rematch with Anderson, Sonnen briefly touched on how title shots are given and the UFC's newest threat at 185-pounds, Hector Lomard:
Quote :
"I don't think there should be any set architecture. You always hear the champion that doesn't want to fight the true best guy making arguments for why he shouldn't have to fight that guy. Rich Franklin did that. He was the champion. He's living the high life. He's fighting bums left and right. And Anderson comes into the company, he has one fight, and Rich is like, 'Well, I don't think he should get it after one fight.' Well, Rich you don't get to decide. Whoever the best guy is gets the shot. And if it's Hector, then Hector will get the shot. Good for him. He's on quite a roll, he won a whole bunch of fights, he's in the UFC. If he can do it, good for him. Whoever the right guy is should get the shot, and I will not deny anybody."

"It was a very long process but I'm here in the UFC now so that's all that matters. I feel great, I've been waiting for this a very long time. I have a lot of experience, but I'm taking this very seriously, this fight, and a good performance from me is gonna make a statement. My gameplan is to win. I'm not gonna go out there and say I'm gonna stand-up only, I'm gonna go out there to win, no matter what it takes. If I have to grapple, I'll grapple. If it has to go to the ground, we'll go to the ground. At the end of the day, this is MMA."
