One of boxing’s most fascinating stars, Mexico native Canelo Alvarez, who at the age of 21 holds a world super welterweight title belt, will be showcased on the all-new HBO feature presentation PORTRAIT OF A FIGHTER: CANELO ALVAREZ, set to premiere in prime time Thursday, April 12 (9:15 p.m. ET/PT) on HBO.

“Portrait of a Fighter” is a new feature designed to strengthen the viewer’s connection to prizefighters and explore an aspect of a fighter’s backstory that is not typically well known by boxing fans.

HBO air times include: Apr. 12 (9:15 p.m.), 16 (9:45 a.m.), 17 (12:00 a.m.), 19 (2:50 a.m.), 25 (8:15 p.m.), 27 (4:45 p.m.) and 29 (12:45 p.m.).

HBO2 air times include: Apr. 29 (9:45 p.m.) and 30 (3:50 p.m.).

All times are ET/PT.

The 13-minute feature will also be available on HBO ON DEMAND® and HBO GO®.

With loads of talent, a red-hot ring record (39-0-1, 29 KOs), a head of red hair to match, and a healthy sprinkling of freckles and charisma, Canelo Alvarez has captivated a nation since turning pro in 2005. He has also shown a willingness to fight on the big stage and will be putting his 154-pound title on the line for the fourth time when he squares off with future Hall of Famer Sugar Shane Mosley (46-7-1, 39 KOs) on Saturday, May 5 in Las Vegas. The date coincides with the Mexican holiday Cinco de Mayo, historically one of boxing’s most popular weekends.

“Alvarez vs. Mosley” will be part of the blockbuster “Mayweather vs. Cotto” boxing card that takes place Saturday, May 5 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View® beginning at 9:00 p.m. (ET)/6:00 p.m. (PT).
