Tonight, UFC President Dana White revealed exclusively to the Underground that the opening sequence for it's PPV broadcast has been redone and the new introduction will be revealed this Saturday for UFC 143. The event will feature Nick Diaz fighting Carlos Condit for the interim welterweight championship in the main event.
The opening sequence, which has shown a Roman gladiator preparing for battle has often been critiqued by fans and although the sequence hasn't been used by the UFC on it's FOX and Fuel TV broadcasts, it had been present as most recent as this past UFC 142.

The Gladiotor sequence is bad, the music is a shitty rip off of Carl Orf's Carmina Burana. They should have just used the good music...

With aging gladiator retired, UFC 143 to debut new 60-second 'show opener'
It appears the UFC's famed gladiator is no more.
The UFC will debut a new 60-second opening for its pay-per-view events at this weekend's "UFC 143: Diaz vs. Condit" show in Las Vegas. It'll replace the one that's been in use for nearly a decade.
The segment, which was produced by the digital-production company Digital Domain (and sister company Mothership), features highlights from 18 of the UFC's most iconic fights.
For years, the UFC has used an opening spot that features a gladiator suiting up for battle. The clip, though, has become infamously outdated and mocked.
According to a release, Digital Domain created the one-minute spot to encompass all eras of the UFC. Fights clips will combine archival footage with "entirely imagined backgrounds" that are meant to show the evolution of the sport. Additionally, the score was created by famed film producer and music producer Hans Zimmer through his company, 14th St. Music.
"The UFC is heading into a new chapter and taking the brand to the next level," UFC president Dana White stated. "We've had the same show open for the past nine years, and with his monumental FOX deal and the global expansion of the UFC, we wanted to come up with a new show open that paid tribute to the fighters who helped us build the business and grow the sport."
A team of 20 artists worked on the clip, which debuts at 10 p.m. ET (7 p.m. PT) during Saturday's PPV broadcast.
Feb 2, 2012 - LAS VEGAS -- UFC president Dana White revealed to the press on Thursday that the organization will unveil a new pay-per-view open Saturday night prior to UFC 143.
The open was created by Digital Domain Productions, a company founded by legendary film director James Cameron, whose resume includes "The Terminator," "Aliens" and "The Titanic." The music for the open was composed by award-winning film composer and music producer Hans Zimmer, who has written scores for motion pictures "The Lion King," "Crimson Tide," "The Dark Knight" and "Inception."
According to White, it took six months to create the 60-second open. The UFC hired two production companies to work on the new open -- the other being a company owned by Primetime producer Jason Hehir -- and ended up choosing Digital Domain's piece.
"Probably the most important part of this new piece is that it pays tribute to all the guys who have helped build the company and the sport over the last ten years during the Zuffa era," White said.
The new PPV open, which is called "Evolution" and has a much different look and feel than the old Gladiator one, is a nod to the UFC's almost 19-year history. It kicks off in a simple dojo as Royce Gracie is tapping out Ken Shamrock at UFC 1 and gradually progresses through the greatest moments in UFC history until we find ourselves inside the Rogers Centre with 55,000 fans. In total, 18 different iconic UFC fights are featured, and the UFC made a point to highlight all seven current champs. There are no plans of changing the open in the near future because as White put it, "when we signed this deal with FOX, these are the guys, almost in chronological order who have helped us get here."
The reason why the new open, which White said cost "an obscene amount of money," didn't premiere prior to 2012's first pay-per-view, UFC 142, was because the UFC forgot to include former UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin in the piece, and according to White, "it cost us a (expletive) load of money and a bunch of time to fix it because there was no way I was going to air this thing without Franklin being in there too."
So after eight years of the Gladiator, a new era kicks off on Saturday night. Oh, and in case you were wondering what happened to the now infamous UFC Gladiator, the UFC tried to find him for a viral video sendoff, but according to White, they could not get in touch with him.
Below is a list of the fights featured in the new opening:
Royce Gracie vs. Ken Shamrock -- UFC 1 Tito Ortiz vs. Evan Tanner -- UFC 30 Matt Hughes -- Frank Trigg -- UFC 52 Chuck Liddell vs. Tito Ortiz -- UFC 47 BJ Penn vs. Sean Sherk -- UFC 84 Georges St-Pierre vs. Matt Hughes -- UFC 65 Randy Couture vs. Tim Sylvia -- UFC 68 Quinton Jackson vs. Wanderlei Silva -- UFC 92 Brock Lesnar vs. Heath Herring -- UFC 87 Rich Franklin vs. Nate Quarry -- UFC 56 Junior dos Santos vs. Gilbert Yvel -- UFC 108 Dominick Cruz vs. Demetrious Johnson -- UFC on VS 6 Forrest Griffin vs. Stephan Bonnar -- TUF 1 Finale Cain Velasquez vs. Brock Lesnar -- UFC 121 Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard -- UFC 125 Jose Aldo vs. Mark Hominick -- UFC 129 Jon Jones vs. Stephan Bonnar -- UFC 94 Anderson Silva vs. Vitor Belfort -- UFC 126

LAS VEGAS – The UFC is dumping its iconic “Gladiator” opening to its pay-per-view broadcasts and live shows and replacing it with an homage to the fighters who helped build the company.
The open, which UFC president Dana White has named “Evolution,” was scored by Academy Award winner Hans Zimmer and produced by Digital Domain, a company founded by Academy Award-winning director James Cameron.
The open, which White showed to reporters Thursday following the UFC 143 pre-fight news conference at Mandalay Bay, has highlight footage from 18 fights featuring all seven reigning UFC champions and six Hall of Fame members.

MMA legend Royce Gracie is one of several former stars that'll appear in the UFC's new pay-per-view opening. It includes moves that represent all of the disciplines that make up mixed martial arts, and concludes by sweeping down a hall of flags from the countries where the UFC has held events, coming to a finish with the faces of the night’s main event fighters on a scoreboard.
White would not disclose how much the company paid to have the new opening produced, but he said it was “an obscene amount” and “way, way more” than his new Ferrari.
Producers culled through nearly 25 hours of highlights to come up with the finished product, which took six months to make. And even when White thought he was finished – and had spent enough – he learned there was more work to do and more money to spend.
As he watched what he thought would be the final product, he noticed that UFC officials had not included video of former middleweight champion Rich Franklin in the reel. White felt Franklin was one of the men instrumental in the company’s rise after he and partners Lorenzo and Frank Fertitta purchased it in 2001 and felt he needed to include Franklin.
“It cost us a [expletive] of money and a bunch of time to fix it and get Rich in there,” White said. “There was no way I was going to air this thing without Franklin being in there, too. It’s really a tribute to the fighters who helped us to get to where we are today.”
The scene begins with Royce Gracie and Ken Shamrock, who met at UFC 1 in 1993, grappling in a dojo. All of the footage from the old UFC fights, which were recorded in standard definition, were digitally remastered to include minute details.
White said it was a painstaking process, but he wanted it to be as perfect as possible.
“These guys had to cut every one of those images out, frame by frame and do little things like the shadowing under the feet,” White said. “The detail in this thing is phenomenal. For most people, this thing is going to air on Saturday, they’re going to be like, ‘Ah, that sucked. It’s all hype.’ You know how the fans are. ‘That’s it?’ Some people will think it’s great, but you cannot imagine the amount of detail and the amount of work that went into this thing.”
As Gracie submits Shamrock and Shamrock is tapping, the digitally created floor cracks and the scene shifts to a slam of Evan Tanner by Tito Ortiz.
As the highlights advance, the Octagon begins to be built around them and the lighting grid goes up. The last highlight shows current middleweight champion Anderson Silva kicking Vitor Belfort in the face to win by knockout at UFC 126. After Silva’s foot connects, it morphs into a wide shot of the massive crowd of more than 55,000 who attended UFC 129 in Toronto.
The UFC interviewed four companies before deciding on Digital Domain, but it also hired the company that produces its UFC Primetime show to make an open that will be used differently, perhaps on its television broadcasts.
The funny post-script is that when White decided to change the popular gladiator opening, he searched for the actor who played the gladiator with the intent of creating a viral video.
He was unable to find him, however. But he said the gladiator played a key role in bringing the UFC to where it is now.
“[When we first bought the company], we went through so much [expletive] to try to figure out what the identity for this thing was going to be,” White said. “Then, when we got the gladiator, I was like, ‘This is it! This is perfect.’ At the time when the gladiator was there, it was awesome, and look what it built into. When we go live, and that show opens, no matter where you are in the arena, that [expletive] place goes crazy.
“He was some actor. We tried to find him. We’ve been looking for him for a week-and-a-half. We were going to do this viral piece with him, but we couldn’t find him. He’s probably fat now, and out of shape.”
Fights that were represented in the show are (in order of appearance):

Sorry OU, I just thought people might want to see what the future is, not discuss an over discussed issue. My bad.

Well your exact post was posted here by bobbitt at 10pm yesterday. So he obviously felt this was the better place for it, which I would agree. It was literally the exact same post, word for word.
