Seriously? He's the dominant champ of the best, deepest, most talented division, and he drops below Aldo? Aldo, who has sort of started a reign in a division that's still fleshing itself out? Just because he couldn't finish the likes of Jon Fitch, who as far as I know can't be finished, Thiago Alves and Dan Hardy, neither of whom can be finished anymore as far as I can tell? That's a bizarre way of looking at it. Besides, why should you have to finish fights? Aren't there judges for a reason?

| he had two chances to finish Hardy, a guy who alot of people(myself included) said had no business in there with GSP, and he didn't finish him. Just like he didn't finish Alves, or Fitch, or Penn. Dominating isn't what I would call it. I would call it fighting not to lose instead of actually dominating. Matt Hughes at least damaged his opponents. Hardy came out of that fight looking the same as when he went in. If you are so much better than the competition why would you drag fights out for 5 rounds? | |

| He should be finishing fights because no one wants to see a boring ass 25 minute humpfest where the guy who is clearly the superior athlete/fighter refuses to put all of us and his opponent out of our misery. | |

He finished Penn. As for dragging fights out, that's not really what he's doing. He is imposing his will on fighters that are defensively sound. Jon Fitch can't be choked and can't be knocked out. Apparently his brain doesn't need oxygen, what are you supposed to do? Thiago Alves is huge and as strong as an ox, too hard to control in order to get a decent sub. Dan Hardy is tough and stubborn and almost any other fighter would have tapped to both of those submission he had them in. The guy hasn't lost a round since the Koscheck fight (unless you count the Serra loss). He's clearly as dominant as it gets. The welterweight division is the deepest division in mma. He's fighting the toughest guys in and out. As for Matt Hughes, he was fighting SIGNIFICANTLY inferior competition. It's easy to look good against Gil Castillo.

And if this is the case, then why did you put Aldo over GSP? His most recent fight was 25 minutes of a clearly superior fighter refusing to put his opponent out of his misery.

| This poll should have been more thought out. Why do it in the middle of a fight involving top p4p guys? | |

Because there are always fights between top p4p guys. There's no break in fight sports. And the UFC is putting cards on twice a month. Fortunately it's easy enough to edit your posts and figure out where you want to drop Machida and move up Shogun. Oh, and I guess you may want to move Kos up, possibly. I dunno.

Really? When isn't there a scheduled fight between p4p fighters? Didn't we all have to just edit our last divisional rankings since they open during fights? Why do you think I left the voting open until after this fight?

Should have just started it after 113 and closed it before 114.

| Farmer actually you bring up a good point sir. We've had this problem in numerous other rankings too. I probably wont count votes from before this event though, now that you mention it. On the one hand, long periods of open voting lead to the most votes, on the other it leads to a less accurate final ranking if votes aren't edited. | |

| Wolf could you please take this off of Global Announcements and change it to a MMA Discussion Announcement.. I went over to the Boxing board and it seems like we are getting more boxing members.. and right at the top is a 20 P4P thread for MMA.
I just think people should know where this is, and doesnt need to be in boxing or even the Pick'em sections.
edit- or Ninja / Any fighting mod out there.
Discretion needs to be for global announcements .. You dont see me sending out a global announcements reminding people to make their picks in the fantasy section.

| How does Machida get ranked higher than BJ when he just got demolished and BJ got jobbed? | |

Machida was undefeated in the hardest division and has wins over a ton of quality guys, including a controversial one over the guy that just beat him while Penn has been jumping weight and has several blemishes throughout his career even though he's looked pretty dominate at LW the past 4/5 fights.

| Yet at the same time BJ was only losing to elite fighters when he moved up(IE Machida, GSP, and Hughes). Undefeated is great and all, but I would think 7 years of dominance would count for something a little more is all I'm saying. | |

Reason #1 because of what Farmer said. Reason 2 is because I said so and it is my rankings. Reason 3 is because I said so! I hate ranking anyone over BJ. He didn't dominate Edgar either. I feel bad ranking both that low. Oh and Reason 4 is because wll you know...
