20 years too late IMO.

I don't mind it.

James Franco and Anne Hathaway proved that relevant stars as hosts arent always the smart move.

Everybody knows who Eddie Murphy is...he's well respected in hollywood..and most of all..he's funny and is good with a crowd. Eddie Murphy is good in the host role, always has been. There won't be so many awkward, price is right losing horn moments with Murphy as there was with Franco and Hathaway for example. Plus being an old school guy Eddie Murphy knows what to do and not to do infront of ultra sensitive hollywood. Good choice IMO.

Prime Murphy is more suited for The Golden Globes.

Eddie Murphy has withdrawn as host of the Oscar ceremony, the Motion
Picture Academy of Arts and Sciences announced on Wednesday.

The decision came a day after his friend Brett Ratner resigned as
producer of the telecast in the wake of his making offensive public
remarks that upset AMPAS members.

In a statement Murphy said, "I completely understand and support each
party's decision with regard to a change of producers for this year's
Academy Awards ceremony. I was truly looking forward to being a part of
the show that our production team and writers were just starting to
develop, but I'm sure that the new production team and host will do an
equally great job."

Ratner was tasting his own foot all of last week starting with falsely claiming he had banged Oliva Munn on her former show and then pissing off the fags.

shame, Murphy would have done a good job. I guess get Steve Martin on the phone.
