So Tito turned this fight down? That's what Dana White said. I guess 4 weeks is not enough time to prepare to erase the draw from 4 years ago away. He also said Machida has not yet agreed to the fight. Hard to imagine him not taking it. He could use a win.

3-4 weeks notice is a valid excuse for anybody not to take a bout against somebody like Evans..even if he killed him before

not a done deal by any means. While Matt Roth's sources are solid, there
are many people who are being told that the fight is not signed. Mike
Chiappetta did offer some interesting insight into what is going on
behind the scenes:

if no one steps up does he sit for another 3-4 months, his career is stalling, almos 2 years out of the cage if that happens, not good for any fighter, especially one with his talent.

Update by Brent Brookhouse: Well now this is just getting silly. After Iole said he received the text saying Machida was in, he tweeted "Correction: Davis is out, Machida not yet in per @danawhite"
And now we get this bit of interesting news from Fighters Only:

Lyoto Machida's manager-wife Fabyola says that her husband won't be taking the late-notice fight with Rashad Evans.
Evans is without an opponent after Phil Davis pulled out yesterday.
Tito Ortiz was asked to step in for the August 6th fight. He declined
and the buck passed to Machida, who has yet to formally respond to the
UFC's offer.
"The fight is close and for the sake of professionalism we can not
accept it. We always do our best, but there is only a few weeks [until
the fight] and it wouldn't be fair on the fans to put in a bad
performance," she told Nomundo Dos Lutas in Brasil.

I don't get why Tito declined, it's not like the Bader fight took alot out of him. Plus he's not exactly got alot of time on his side to fill that pension fund.

Maybe if the UFC did give him 450K for that last fight he might feel the need to take another one.
