| http://www.mmamania.com/2011/7/10/2269261/war-to-settle-the-score-carlos-condit-wants-to-avenge-loss-to-jakeThere's been a rather refreshing change in MMA lately. Have you noticed? When fighters are asked who they would like to fight or who they may have their eye on for the future, most of them tend to resort to the tried and true method of deflection. "Whoever Dana White gives me, I'll fight," they say. You have to admire their courage to stand up to whoev... zzzzzzzzzzzzz. Sorry, but it's nice when fighters buck the trend and actually decide to throw a name out. We've seen this recently with Melvin Guillard calling out every lightweight under the Zuffa banner, Mark Munoz asking for a fight against Chris Leben and the entire Bellator roster wanting a piece of Nate Marquardt. Joining the fray is Carlos Condit, who recently told SB Nation's own Luke Thomas that he would love to avenge his 2006 loss to Jake Shields. "One guy that I've got my eye on fighting is Jake Shields. I know that he's slated to fight Jake Ellenberger but a rematch with Jake Shields would be pretty important to me because that was a loss early on in my career that I would like to avenge." The loss Condit is referring to is a 2006 match-up that saw Shields grind out a unanimous decision win in a Rumble on the Rock Welterweight Tournament Final. Just under one year later, "The Natural Born Killer" signed on with Zuffa, joining the ranks in the WEC and, aside from a close split decision loss to Martin Kampmann in his UFC debut, hasn't lost since. He's also flying at his highest after two consecutive spectacular knockout wins over Dan Hardy and Dong Hyun Kim, respectively. Of course, a prospective fight between the two 170-pound contenders will have to wait, seeing as Shields is already tied up with Jake Ellenberger in the main event of UFC Fight Night 25 on Sept. 17. But if he makes it out unscathed and Condit is still lonely and without a dance partner for later this year, expect talks to heat up. Sound good to you? |

| Expose Jake? The guy is a top 10 p4p fighter. Would be a great fight though to see how far Condit has come. If he beats shields the he get the next title shot for sure.

| How could someone expose Jake when Jake already beat him once, and Jake is the only guy to win rounds on GSP since Matt Serra? Condit will lose this fight. Don't book it. | |

| How long ago was that? Shields is a better grappler but wouldnt have the standup to win. Just think Carlos has turned into the better fighter. | |

| Jake's bad standup has cost him exactly once. He'd take Condit down, who loves to work from the guard, eat elbows, win on points and set the internet on fire with claims Condit's from the bottom work rate should have won him the decision. | |

Its hard not to back COndit the way he's been killing it lately, but I agree with this post.

| Condit has still not shown great tdd, almost cost him vs Ellenberger. And we know Jake will be looking to take this fight to the mat.
I hope Carlos can keep it standing, and he would have a clear edge here, but I can't say Im confident that he can.
But it is the perfect fight for Carlos, stuff the takedown, avenge a loss, beat a p4p guy, if he can do those things, there would be hype for a Condit vs GSP title fight.

Won rounds from GSP? I gave him 1 round at the most. |

| On the judges and most of the blogsphere he won rounds on the cards. Anyway, even if you give him just 1 round, how many his last four years worth of opponents win? | |

| I agree with you in that Shields is still underrated and is a great fighter though. People saying Condit wins shouldn't bet money on it. |

Well he's taken every other oppent down. When a guy is on top he win 99% of the rounds, however when the fights left standing rounds can be harder to judge. GSP took another UD which is what he does......one way or another.

| people are hoping on the condit train here cus of his recent exciting finishes. hes a good fighter and an exciting one yes but still doesnt take away from the fact he avoided fitch for a reason earlier this year.shields like fitch would out work condit on the ground without a problem. rory was close to getting the dec over him up until the last few second in their fight. i'll take shields over fitch by dec | |
