meh, he avoided good fighters for years and lucked into the K1 title in an era when K1 is down and can't even pay real fighters real purses. Overeem would be annihilated by JDS.

I like Overeem but he hasn't exactly faced top competition, here are his wins since moving up to HW full time in 07:

Only his last three opponents are even credible fights. All the rest are can-annihilations. Besides Paul I guess but he is no world beater.

Hunt was mentioned as one of his opponents
Lost to Rua in 07 (believe that was at LHW)

So a fight against a guy who kept shooting and flopping to his back when he was expected takedowns every 5 seconds and now Overeem has overrated striking? Got it

Bobbitt - Overeem plods and tries to use the big glove shell, he doesn't bounce or move like he used to. He has awful MMA defense. These are all things I pointed out prior to this fight and these are all things that turned out to be true. I was right on Overeem. His striking is overrated, as is the entire K1 organization. In terms of what it means for an MMA fight anyway.

I talked about his K-1 style defense a few months back when looking at a hypothetical matchup with JDS. But the bottom line is he still has good technique, hits like a truck and throws vicious knees from the clinch. He headhunted all night last night as guys tend to do when they don't feel threatened at all and are up against someone who keeps shooting for "takedowns" in vain. It won't be the last time we see a great offensive fighter look like shit against a jiu-jitsu artist that comes in with that kind of gameplan. I expect we'll see a fuller arsenal against Bigfoot with kicks mixed in as well. And sure he doesn't have the movement that he used to have. He was a string bean that was long and athletic and now he's a hulk walking around the cage. Still going to be really hard to take down, still has an underrated grappling game and still packs huge power

JDS still leaves his chin exposed and head up when he comes in to throw combinations and could easily get put out cold by Alistair. I'm not going to react that strongly to what we saw last night. Werdum came to not get knocked out ultimately

anyone remember when Overeem threw Werdum to the mat jsut as he did ROgers?

First off Freak, don't ever talk for me, I try not to do it for anyone else. Not saying I am successful, but I try not to. But your right. It is the only one that counts and if you were impressed by Overeem last night, you have issues. I graded it 1st round to Overeem and the last o Werdum. Fabricio, and I am no fan of his, was aggressive on striking, kept coming forward and took Alistair down more in the last two rounds. Of course to the layman it looked like he dragged him down, but being on his back, much like some whore, is where Werdum excels and that is a take down...sorry. Cain, JDS and probably Brock, Struve and several others would have left Alistair puzzled.

They are credible opponents but not in the context of the last 3-4 years. He didn't fight any of them in that time period at HW except for Cro Cop.

Lolllllllllllllllllll at anybody thinking Struve would last 1 min with Alistair. I agree that Cain and JDS would beat him but no chance in hell Struve beats him.
