Warrior relies on many of the clichés that critics of the genre love to mock -- and it transcends them with gripping action, powerful acting, and heart.

An ex-Marine haunted by a tragic past, Tommy Riordan returns to his hometown of Pittsburgh and enlists his father, a recovered alcoholic and his former coach, to train him for an MMA tournament awarding the biggest purse in the history of the sport. As Tommy blazes a violent path towards the title prize, his brother, Brendan, a former MMA fighter unable to make ends meet as a public school teacher, returns to the amateur ring to provide for his family. Even though years have passed, recriminations and past betrayals keep Brendan bitterly estranged from both Tommy and his father. But when Brendan's unlikely rise as an underdog sets him on a collision course with Tommy, the two brothers must finally confront the forces that tore them apart, all the while waging the most intense, winner-takes-all battle of their lives. Very good movie. Best MMA movie to come out by far. Marquart, Anthony Johnson, and Eric Apple are in it. Eric Apple has a pretty big roll.

Empire gave it five stars, said it was on a par with The Fighter.
It bombed at the weekend though, only made something like 7 mill.

I can see it bombing, I mean look how good the Strikeforce card was and it didn't do so well, even though this sport has been around for years it is still not main stream, the Fox move will help. I mean this sport was still way in the background till one fight lit up people's tv's, people called each other and said check this out, these two guys are going toe to toe with one another. The movie will probably do great on DVD

Strikeforce.. An MMA promotion that is not very well known to the general population. The fights are shown on Showtime, a premium channel that some, if not most, homes do not have.
Warrior.. A movie, about MMA, that is currently in theaters. The movie is being advertised constantly on TV, and appears to be a good movie.
Not quite sure what Strikeforce and this movie have to do with eachother.

No real stars to bring in the bucks though, Hardy's got buzz around him but only from the movie industry.

I never said it wasn't a good movie, in fact I hear it is a great movie from people I know that I have watched it and a miriad of others, they both are MMA and as much as we love MMA the general public has not quite caught on to it 100%, some people might think oh and MMA movie and avoid it, I was using Strikeforce because it was a good card, and the movie is supposed to be good so to me with the Strikeforce card being fresh in my mind I just used that as a comparison.
