Another UFC main event bites the dust.

UFC president Dana White announced today that former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar has been forced to withdraw from UFC 131's main event due to a second case of diverticulitis.

Shane Carwin has been tapped as Lesnar's replacement and will meet Junior Dos Santos.

Lesnar was due to fight Dos Santos at the pay-per-view event, which takes place June 11 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The two serve as opposing coaches on "The Ultimate Fighter 13," which completed filming this past February and is currently airing.

It's the second time diverticulitis has derailed Lesnar's career, though Lesnar said it's not nearly as serious as his first. In late 2009, he was forced to withdraw from UFC 106 due to an unknown malady that turned out to be a life-threatening case of diverticulitis, a digestive disease of the intestines.

Lesnar was hospitalized for 11 days and lost 40 pounds in his first bout with the disease.

White said Lesnar's second bout was diagnosed recently at the Mayo Clinic.

"He's got some serious choices to make in the next couple of weeks whether to fight this thing or to take surgery," he said.

Lesnar said his second bout with the illness hasn't been as serious as his first. Surgery could potentially jeopardize his future in the sport.

Lesnar, however, said he's not retiring from the sport.

"I've just got to find the right solution to fix this problem," he said.

I do believe my boy Lesnar is done.

Sucks for Brock. But this is a better matchup in my opinion.

I feel for Brock. I think JDS gets a better match up now. Brock would have at least tried to tke JDS out of his element. I think Carwin tried to strike and gets dropped.

Yeah, Brock is going to skip out on a title shot and big pay day, because he doesnt want to get hit in the face by JDS.. Just like he skipped out on the Carwin fight aswell..

I think Brock vs JDS would have been a 50-50 fight but I want him to be 100% healthy before he fights a guy like JDS. LA I was thinking the same thing about Roy calling this also.

So has Dana come out and said that Lesnar will never fight again and he fought Cain Velasquez at 25% strength.

Roy was clearly implying that Brock would skip out on the fight or leave during the middle of TUF or something aka he didn't want to fight anymore. Nobody saw this happening

Yeah, good thing this diverticulitis popped up again so he could drop out of a fight against a guy who's smaller and has way less wrestling chops than the last 2 guys he fought. Just because Brock doesn't react well when hit doesn't mean he's afraid of it. He was smiling with blood pouring down his face at the end of that Cain fight

Some people are just haters. At least some own up to it though so no need to take their silly comment seriously. On the side note i was going to be rooting for brock but knew jds was most likely goin to be the winner. With that said hope brock gets better but I dont think he will ever hold the title again. its a sad day now that one of the best hws and and best hw champs in recent years is forced to be removed from the sport over something that is out of his control

Yeah now thats Cain and Brock out with injuries. Good thing Carwin is ready so the card really still has a very good main event.

Feel bad for Brock and hope he recovers quick but in all honesty I like this fight more that the original

Brock took Cain down but Cain was able to get up because of his wrestling. JDS is smaller than Cain and has nowhere near the wrestling skill. I don't think JDS would've been able to get up.

i'm with GDP and Chicken here, this matchup interest me more style wise.

I'm a well documented Lesnar hater, everyone knows it. I think Brock was going to get blasted here and I really think he was never going to fight JDS.

AGAIN ?? fuck that sucks for Brock.

Carwin vs JDS is a dream fight for the division, lean slightly towards Cigano because of Shane's inactivity, surgery and vulnerable chin. However Carwin is a beast, I wouldn't be shocked if JDS got knocked out.

Also JDS has much better hands than Carwin, his striking is pretty crisp.
