| Ludo, I understand what you are saying. But again it comes back to a Myopic POV about the needs and deserves. What most of these fighters need to ask when they think they could or should get more is this. "What would I be doing if the UFC wasn't where it was?" Hoping for a paycheck from Pride/DREAM? Getting to fight for a fraction of the salary at Strikeforce? Teaching wrestling/match/sponsoring the glee club at a high school? There is so much money being made by fighters now as compared to 5 years ago it isn't even funny. As for what is in Zuffa's best interest? Well since it is their company, their money, their investment and considering fighters were still getting paid while they were 44 Million in the hole? Who gives a shit what the fighters 'think' they deserve? You are not worth what you think you are worth, you are worth what someone is willing to pay you. | |

| What is the UFC without athletes willing or fit to fight for them?

| I think the fighters had something to do with this. Anyone remember this? http://www.mmamania.com/2011/4/20/2122884/randy-couture-thinks-ufc-can-avoid-a-fighters-union-by-resolving-key - Quote :
- "There’s going to be a battle. I’d rather sit down with the UFC,
[president] Dana White and [CEO] Lorenzo Fertitta and figure out a way to implement some things with their blessing. Health insurance for fighters when they’re not competing is a huge issue. There are a few fighters who could call up the UFC and say, ‘Look, I need some help, I blew out my knee in practice,’ and the UFC is going to help them. They’ve been generous but they can’t do that with everyone. There are over 200 fighters ... There’s a whole bunch of issues when you start unionizing ... There’s a give and take there. [Unions] can sometimes get carried away. It would be great to sit down and figure out a way to take care of the guys in this company so that everybody feels good about it and no one is in a position to have too much power or for a fighter to take advantage of a union and hold out. There’s got to be a way to come together and meet on ground that everyone can live with." | |

| http://www.ninjasplace.com/t5415-mma-union-revisited?highlight=union"Unless you can get the top athletes, you're not going to [unionize]," Lindland told Eddie Goldman. "The fighters [are] all whores; they just fight for the biggest purse, and it's going to be tough unless you could somehow get all the fighters to agree to something like that. There's always somebody going to come up underneath who's not willing to do it. "There's enough support (for a union), but these guys outside of the cage or outside of the ropes are cowards. You know they would not dare stand up to the powers-that-be." Lorenzo Fertitta suggested the idea of a union is not practical for the sport of MMA. "One of the things that's a little bit different is that fighting in general – I know a lot of people have talked about the same issue (with) boxing – fighting seems to be such a individual sport," he said. "And guys have different needs and different motivations, and what's good for a guy like Chuck Liddell is maybe not good for a kid like Paul Kelly coming up. "They have different needs and are (at) different times in their careers, so I'm not sure if it works or not." Fertitta said his promotion will continue to do as much as possible for its contracted fighters. "We do the best we can to tend to them," Fertitta said. "Anybody who gets injured in the UFC, we cover that 100 percent-plus. We carry more insurance than any promoter in the history of the world (and) take care of more things – actually take care of everything for a guy who gets hurt in a fight. "So we try to tend to their needs as best we can." | |
