- Heavyweight Shane Del Rosario (11-0 MMA, 3-0 SF) has withdrawn from an upcoming bout with fellow prospect Daniel Cormier (7-0 MMA, 4-0 SF) following a car accident this past week, MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today learned from sources close to the event.
A lightweight bout between K.J. Noons (10-3 MMA, 2-1 SF) and Jorge Masvidal (21-6 MMA, 2-0 SF) will likely take its place, according to a separate source.
"Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum" takes place June 18 at American Airlines Center in Dallas and airs live on Showtime.
Details on Del Rosario's accident are scant at this time, but it's believed his injuries are serious enough to keep him from fighting on the card. Calls to Del Rosario and his representatives went unanswered.
The undefeated fighter was fresh off an impressive submission win over Lavar Johnson at "Strikeforce and M-1 Global: Fedor vs. Silva." The bout served as a reserve bout in the promotion's heavyweight grand prix.
Del Rosario's bout with Cormier was also billed as a reserve bout. It's unknown at this time whether his injuries will keep him from future tournament vacancies.
Cormier could not be reached for comment.
Noons returns to the cage after falling short in a bid for Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz's belt this past October. The two had met three years prior with Noons emerging victorious as lightweight champion of the now-defunct EliteXC.
Masvidal most recently dispatched up-and-comer Billy Evangelista this past March at "Strikeforce: Columbus." The American Top Team lightweight has hopscotched between wins and losses in his previous four appearances.

| Tough loss off the card but is replaced by an equally intriuging LW contest. No loss no gain, is good. I think Cormier would of defeated SDR. | |

| F U C K two of SF's best HW prospects replaced by an also ran from Kimbo DVD's and the wrong end of Bellator's highlight reel and Noons.
Not that I dislike that fight, but seriously, it does not replace a tournament alternate bout. Ugh.

| The tournament alternate aspect doesn't really matter much to me. If things play out like they should and Reem and Barnett advance, SDR or Cormier would get absolutely fucking worked by everyone left in that tournament. I'm waiting for someone from one of those 2 fights to pull out and that whole tourney to be scrapped | |

| you're being silly and either of these two fighters could actually win or make it to the finals if included in the main draw anyway. Believe. | |

| Not seeing it. After watching SDR-Lavar, he's further away from fighting the top level guys than I thought he was
Cormier would have an out atleast with wrestling if we weren't talking about monsters like Reem and Bigfoot and someone with the skill of Barnett. Not buying either of them having much of a chance at all. Striking defense is too poor given the dudes left in that

| SDR is only 27 still, I think he has a chance to develop into a top HW. Cormier is 32, his window is closing a little faster. | |

| An awesome fight replaced by an awesome fight.
...but i would have preferred to see who the better of SDR-Cormier was. Noons-Masvidal is a really good matchup though.

This was good luck for SDR. Cormier would've bored us to death with a lay n pray win.
