Rafael 'Feijao' Cavalcante vs. Ovince St. Preux Targeted for July- FIGHT OFF

Strikeforce is targeting a light heavyweight fight between former 205-pound champion Rafael "Feijao" Cavalcante and Ovince St. Preux at a yet to be announced July event, MMA Fighting has learned from sources close to the fight.

Feijao vs. OSP has been discussed by all parties involved, however, Strikeforce officials recently told MMA Fighting that "nothing (is) finalized" just yet.

Cavalcante (10-3) lost his title to Dan Henderson in March via third-round TKO. He won the title last August when he defeated Muhammed Lawal via third-round TKO.

St-Preux (10-4) went 7-0 in 2010. He most recently scored a unanimous decision win over Abongo Humphrey in January.

Recent reports stated that St-Preux would be facing Lawal at Strikeforce's June 18 event, but according to sources close to both fighters, that fighter was never close to being signed.

MMARising.com recently reported that Lawal would instead be facing Roger Gracie on a July 9 card, which could be the same one to feature Feijao vs. OSP.

big step up in comp for OSP, I think Feijao takes this one tho

SF LHW division starting to fill out. It be nice if the UFC sent some guys like James Te Huna, Jason Brilz or the Janitor to the division to increase depth.

I got Feijao here, but OSP is a really quick starter and very powerful with the strikes in the early going. Feijao is typically a slow starter and gets tagged early..so, OSP will probably have an oppurtunity to take this one but Feijao has more ways to beat Ovince than the other way around.

I really like this fight, OSP (LOL) is pretty solid, good end up pretty good, but htink Feijao is just better all around.

Feijao maybe alittle gun shy after the Hendo fight so he needs to get off to a good start.

That's kind of what I was thinking. OSP is big, strong, fast and RAW, with all of those attributes emphasized early in his fights. But he does fade out after expending a bunch of early energy. Feijao is a huge dude to and could gas similarly but he so far looks better paced and a bit more mature in his fight game.

Henderson" event after all.


A source close to the show told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that despite reports, the two fighters never agreed to the bout.


Both are expected to be booked for other upcoming fights.
