Anthony Pettis vs UFC Champ or Strikeforce Champ?

If Anthony Pettis beats Clay Guida should he unify the WEC title with the UFC title or should he unify it with the Strikeforce title vs Melendez?

pretty good idea matching Pettis with Gil. Pettis needs a fight, Gil needs a fight. I think Gil has a quick turnaround here, and Pettis has already waited long enough.

I doubt Pettis has much interest in a belt that doesn't mean anything when he's probably next in line for the UFC strap if he beats Guida

It would be up to Dana not Pettis. Anyway Pettis has no chance against either Edgar or Maynard.

Yeah and Dana would want a guy who's got the greatest MMA highlight of all-time to leave UFC to go fight in Strikeforce because...?

because they own SF. And I hope that they are not looking to be super rigid in terms of keeping guys under one single banner.

Dana makes money wherever Pettis fights. The more money Strikeforce makes the more Dana makes. Anyway in 2 years time they will merge so it makes good sense to build the Strikeforce champs up so there can be 5 mega title fights.

I think we oughta wait and see what happens in his fight with Guida.

They even asked last night if we want to see crossover fights and 96% of the audience said yes.

If any of the Strikeforce champs are going to fight crossover bouts against any top UFC fighter, it will be the Strikeforce fighters doing the crossing.

I don't think we'll see it..because as soon as there is unification bouts..no matter who wins..there is no more SF champion. As long as Showtime needs to put on SF cards..i doubt we'll see it.

Pettis has a really good chance at losing to guida in his upcoming fight however if he was to fight any of them, he would lose to all of them.

That's my point. WEC was more on the level with Strikeforce than the UFC so maybe those 2 should unify first. It gives Gilbert better competition and the 2 lesser belts get unified. In 2 years time the UFC and Strikeforce will merge anyway and the LW title fight would hold even more meaning.

But Showtime is already in the UFC. He's a win away from fighting for the UFC Title. Why would he drop to SF? Not the Gil isn't very good, but perception and paydays in the UFC is better.

Payday is what your contract says and he'll be on the same contract in both. Melendez needs better competition.

Strikeforce champs crossing over won't happen for awhile.

I went Gil. He's a dog either way but less so against Melendez.
