| “I just wanted to address something real quick. Yesterday [on the conference call] one of the reporters asked me if I was done fighting at 155 pounds and I said, ‘Dana wouldn’t let that happen’. I definitely believe that I’ll be fighting at 155 pounds again. So maybe I was a little miss quoted or maybe the quote came out wrong. But that’s not really important, what’s important is taking on Jon Fitch in Australia. He’s been the man for a long time at welterweight and that’s it, that’s the plan.”
Yesterday and today headlines circulated across the internet media that BJ Penn may be abandoning his long time home in the UFC’s lightweight division. In a conversation that was pulled from the UFC 127 Pre Fight Conference call Penn was quoted in saying that he doesn’t like the cut and that Dana may not let him return.
Apparently, the intentions behind his statements were not presented in the right manner because BJ “The Prodigy” Penn as announced in his most recent video blog indeed plans on returning to the division that he dominated for so long.

| Glad he cleared that up. If he beats Fitch I wouldn't mind him fighting for the LW title after his WW title shot, win or lose. If he is WW Champion it would be cool to see him challenge for that LW belt right away. Or even if he loses he could still challenge for the LW title. | |

| Lol, in another post you said Thiago Alves can't get a title shot after only 2 wins but now you say Penn can get a title shot even after a loss? Also if Edgar is champ then Penn wont get a title shot at LW for a long long time. | |

Former Champions get special treatment, always have. BJ Penn is a former UFC WW and LW Champion. Thiago Alves? Well he lost his only title fight and also lost a #1 contender fight. Pluse Thiago Alves' wins would be over Howard and Story. Penn's wins would be over Hughes and Fitch. So BJ has a much more compelling argument then Thiago Alves. The situations are not the same.

He is 0-1-1 against Maynard. Proof he is beatable.

In my eyes Penn is 1-1 vs Frankie. Those judges at the abu dabi event were smoking crack. But I would say that BJ looked unmotivated in both fights and can't knock on Frankie for the judges sucking or BJ's level of giving a fuck.

| I never said Edgar is unbeatable. He did beat Penn twice though and the last one easily so I don't see Penn getting a rematch anytime soon. | |

| It makes sense for him in this era of MMA. He might have the skills to be that fighter who is comfortable not having to cut weight at WW, but that is going to leave him at a disadvantage still against some of the better larger fighters. LW max's him out in all ways granted he cuts healthily. | |

| Always though he would, the BJ I saw face Hughes, beats anyone at LW.
Penn is the most marketable LW, aside from being a legend, even if Frankie is still Champ, it won't take long for BJ to get another shot if he keeps winning.

| Because the thread is talking about BJ moving between LW and WW
Just thinking how BJ has always been one of those fighters whom almost defined P4P for me, Fedor is the other one.
