| http://www.cagepotato.com/fedor-vs-bigfoot-reported-january-strikeforce-meeting-overeem-vs-lashley-rumored-dynamite - Quote :
- After months of negotiations between Strikeforce and Fedor Emelianenko's useless management company, the Last Emperor may finally have a return date. According to MMA Weekly, Emelianenko will face fellow heavyweight contender Antonio Silva at a yet-unannounced January 29th Strikeforce event. It will be Emelianenko's first fight since his shocking submission loss to Fabricio Werdum in June. Silva also dropped a fight to Werdum last November, but has posted wins over Andrei Arlovski and Mike Kyle since then. Emelianeko is already 1-0 against fighters with acromegaly.
The January 29th event is expected to take place at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, and will allegedly feature the return of Herschel Walker, and — get this — the third meeting between Jason Miller and Tim Kennedy, now that the trash talk between Miller and Nick Diaz has officially reached a stalemate, with neither fighter willing to leave their weight class.
But enough about non-freak-show fights. Let's get to the good stuff...
The rumor coming out of Japan is that Strikeforce heavyweight champion/brand-new K-1 Grand Prix champion Alistair Overeem will be booked to face 5-1 former WWE star Bobby Lashley at Dynamite!! 2010 on New Year's Eve. Holy shit is that irresponsible. It's the kind of matchup that makes you wish Strikeforce had their guys under exclusive contracts, because no way would that fight ever get made in the States. You'd sort of hope that Overeem would have better things to do with his time than beat the tar out of an outmatched opponent in an MMA fight, but I guess that's kind of his thing now.
Among the new matchups being announced for Dynamite!!: Ikuhisa "Minowaman" Minowa will take on 3-1 Japanese judo champion Hiroshi Izumi, Gegard Mousasi will face Japanese kickboxing star Kyotaro in a K-1 rules match, and Hayato Sakurai will meet Jason High.

| Good short notice fight for Reem. Lashley lost to a nobody he was mostly dominating due to gassing, but he still has a good takedown and GnP game, so he is roughly as dangerous as Brock. | |

| Wrestling is a different kind of sport though. The main reason the NCAA D1 is "it" in Bball and football is because of the profitable nature of the sports for the colleges and the pro games. Wrestling just aint like that so top level guys end up competing across the college circuit. Olympic Gold Medalists have come out of the NAIA. There isn't nearly the number of scholarships for highschool wrestlers compared to other sports and the focus on recruitment isn't there either. This leaves the talent level a bit more distributed.
World level guys come out of both the D1 and D2 levels along with NAIA and Juco as well.

| The cream of the crop is still the Iowa's and Oklahoma St's of the world. But you are right to a certain extent. Except for forgetting to note that there is still a top level that is truely the top level. There are elite wrestling D-1 schools that trump all others. | |

Fact is though, multiple time NAIA champions who transitioned to the Olympic Level are elite wrestlers on the world level. This is fact. Lashley went "pro" in like 03 I believe, so he isn't as far removed from his days as Lesnar is, and he was competing at a higher level than Lesnar was, since Lesnar stopped in college.

| I doubt Lashley is going to accept a fight with Overeem on less than 2 weeks notice. I'm sure Ubereem would love to take that fight. | |

| D-1 wrestlers are still the cream of the crop.
And wasn't Lashley struggling to get Jason Guida down for a bit?

| Lashley has gas enough for a round and a half if he can't get the takedown. If Jason Riley can stuff it, I don't see any reason why Overeem can't shuck it. | |
