- "A counter-offer was made with a fight between Aldo and Kenny Florian. They offered us this and I was the first to decline it. Aldo fighting [Frankie Edgar], the fourth in the world, is one thing. It’s the champion of the event fighting a champion of the same organization, but on the weight division above. It’s the same thing that Ultimate confronts champions of two different divisions of the event ... When they said it’d be Kenny Florian, it’s not that he’s not a tough guy, I think he’s an excellent athlete, but he’s coming from a bad result and, unfortunately for him, he was never Ultimate’s champion, and now he’s not even on the top 10 pound by pound, so I couldn’t see why this fight should happen. Who turned the proposal down was me, and nobody else. Aldo wanted to fight, but who turned it down was me because I understand this fight wouldn’t bring any benefit to him, independently that Kenny Florian is a great fighter or not ... If they have offered Sean Sherk, on a similar situation, maybe I’d have accepted, it was more likely. He was a guy coming from a win and he once was the champion of the event, so we declined the offer because of that. It wasn’t because we were afraid of the other guy, it was because I thought I wasn’t worth it."

| I'm not buy this at all. Either Aldo's management was scared or Aldo himself was, and I'm betting it was the management. They can't say Kenny isn't a big enough name then say they would have took Sherk. Even though yeah Sherk was a champ and he beat Kenny, hell I'd even pick Sherk in a rematch with Kenny, Kenny is right there at the top of 155. He was a win away from getting another title shot probably so yeah the arguement that Kenny doesn't have a big enough name is BS if you ask me.
Also Anderson Silva's first fight at LHW was against a guy that was nowhere near the top of the division so they should've been glad they got offered Florian imo.

| Kenny doesn't scare anyone and was just called a choke artist after a bout with Gray Maynard by Dana White. Not a hard decision to understand. He's a gate keeper, not a former champion. | |

| in all reality 2 out 3 of aldos best wins in his career have been against guys that couldnt hack it as second string lws in the ufc. Kenny would of been aldos toughest test to date and although is not a former champ, he is a current top lw | |

Dana just lashed out at Kenny because he obviously wanted Kenny to win, he knew Gray Maynard wouldn't put a single butt in any seat. You make Kenny sound like he's in the middle of the pack at LW. Kenny and Sherk are right beside each other in the LW division. Former Champ or not a fight with Kenny would benefit Aldo just as much as a fight with Sherk. And like I said in my first post of this thread, why should he fight a champ or former champ excuse me, from the LW division when Anderson's first fight at LHW was Irvin??

| I'm starting to get annoyed by people who write off FW's who used to fight at LW as small LW's as merely "guys who couldn't hack it at LW". Like Manny wasn't undersized to hell at LW. Brown was small for the division also. Will Edgar get this treatment in a year or two after he has been removed from LW by bigger fighters I wonder? | |

| As Champ, and a very young one at that, I see no problem with him declining any match up vs a guy from a higher weight.
Now the argument put forth by whomever that was, was obviously flawed, but whatever the reason, I don't see anything wrong with saying no to Kenny.

| He should have said yes though, because even if Florian*(edit) has been relegated to "also ran" at LW, he is still somewhat like Forrest(yes Forrest won a title) and would really help raise Aldo's profile among casuals and his claim as a pound for pound elite.

Manny wasn't losing at LW because he was too small he was losing because he wasn't skillful enough. |

| So he would have fought two fighters better than Florian. Maybe he thinks KFlo is a waste of time. | |
