UFC trying to sign Carwin vs Nelson

Sources close to the fight, have confirmed that the organization is looking to match up contenders Shane Carwin and Roy Nelson at UFC 125 on New Year's Day.


I'd be routing for Roy but I'm pretty sure he'd get KOed by Carwin.

I read earlier that Carwin is signed to fight Jan. 1 but opponent is yet to be named. So is Fat Boy weighing his options? Maybe he is going after Mir instead?

Carwin destroys anyone not named Brock Lesnar in the UFC.

Why do you say that? He was dropped by GG. He gassed vs Brock so what if someone can just outlast him? Doesn't appear to take much.

I could see Roy sitting on his face if he gets to the second round, then he subs him. Carwin only wins if he tko's him in the first. I don't have faith that his lungs are gonna be remarkably better.

It takes having a metal skull like Brock. Carwin has a chin on him and is the most powerful guy in the UFC. He's improved a lot since his fight with GG. Look what he did to Mir and Brock. Roy wont last a round unless Carwin decides to hold back to preserve his energy.

This might be an interesting match-up. If Nelson can hold-off Carwin in the first 2 minutes, he would have a chance.

Like and don't like this fight, I want Roy to win, but Carwin probably has been working cardio like mad and if he touches you, you go down, only Brock can survive his punishment, just wanted to type that

He was also handled with kiddie gloves. Let him take on the big boys a couple years and we will get back to this.

This... Sad day when you look across the cage and realize that a guy who looks like he's the model for the Pillsbury Doughboy has ten times your cardio. Carwin better end this early or Roy will either roll him into a crucifex and GnP to a TKO or just sub him...

Dos Santos has good takedown D, Nelson's grappling credentials outweigh Carwin's wrestling credentials and he couldn't get him down, to clarify Roy beat Mir in a grappling tourney. Standing it would be onesides, Cain could also probably beat Carwin.

IMO it was more a mistake by GG then it was a great move by Carwin.

What are you talking about? Mir has the worst wrestling in the UFC. Carwin would take JDS down and do a Brock on him. Not get into a BJJ contest.

Mir doesn't have good takedowns, but can avoid them, the fact that Roy couldn't get JDS down is a good sign for him against Carwin, it's not like Carwin has the wrestling Brock has, do more HW.

Carwin's wrestling is close enough to Brock but that still doesn't mean JDS can't stay standing long enough to win vs either guy. Neither guy has some elite wrestling, they just have a good wrestling base with a ton of power.
