BJ is the real champ, but I'd think Gil beats Edgar by being stronger and more well rounded. Gil could contend with Edgar standing, but if he couldn't, on the ground and against the fence would be all Gilbert imo.

I think you're underestimating Frankie. I give him a wrestling edge and a pretty good striking one against Gil. It would be a great fight though.

Gray is developping with every fight, but even as a project he's too much for guys like Frankie Edgar, Roger Huerta, Jim Miller and Nate Diaz. The Vegas odds would be with Gray on this one by a fairly good margin.

Gilbert is tough, has great cardio, improving boxing and pretty good wrestling. He's a tough fight for anyone at 155 and is definitely top 5 imo.

I guess we are arguing terminology, but I'd rank rape as a worse beating then beat down.

I know we all thought Aoki was overvalued but he was still a top 3 155 and he had nothing to offer gil.

How is Gil not getting the respect he deserves? He has outstruck excellent strikers and tonight he spent a fair amount of the fight sitting in Shinya Aoki's guard(Where Gil not dare go) and still dominated him every second of the fight. He has the motor, the standup, the wrestling, he's competent in jiu jitsu, power, cardio...he's the shit and the real deal.

He's no BJ but i still don't agree any one is.

Aoki has fought plenty of good guys who on paper should have been able to do what Melendez did tonight but they could not even get out of the first round with him. Yet Melendez dominated him everywhere the fight went, including the ground. Melendez is not just another LW IMO. He's special. Not a prodigy but in the arguement with anybody else...including the current UFC Champion*

Aoki was always oveerrated, like I've been saying forever, a bunch of guys in the UFC do the same thing to Aoki.

Since BJ Penn is mortal again, Gilbert Melendez has all the tools, skills and athleticism to hang with anyone in the UFC. He has been facing top quality UFC level fighters in Strikeforce and Pride for years now.

Ishida and Thomson (plus the layoff) are really that good? Crusher would be exposed in the US too
