Chuck Liddell?

Now that Chuck has retired I was wondering how people view his career? Do u think he was overrated, underrated, or right where he should be?

Put up some great fights, had vicious hands, and a solid chin til his chin finally started to wear away, and also started putting on the beer gut.


That comes with age though. In his prime, he was great.

Overated. Rua, Wanderlei and Rampage were all better at their peaks and they spent them in Pride. If he spent his whole career there he would've never been champ.

Freak is right on this issue. Chuck was a product of Babalu and a 40 year old Couture windmilling punches at him. He got his ass kicked for nearly every second he was in the Pride ring. His big power was always the equalizer against other wrestlers. Once he started fighting strikers he was suddenly old overnight.

Wand wasn't better than Chuck at their peaks IMO. I do think Shogun and Rampage would've beaten him more often than not though, especially Page who was a terrible matchup for him once his boxing really started to take off. + I think in a who beats who all-time LHW breakdown, Shogun is #1

Lets discredit Chuck beating Prime Randy

Sure he avoided some strikers at his peak, but still was beating top LHWs, and I'm not going to use Page and losses at the end of his career to say prime Chuck wouldn't beat other top strikers. Page was a bad matchup for Chuck too, it happens.

I voted over. In their Primes Wandy was a faster looper and would have knocked the shit out of him, but even if not that was one of the few LHW's in Pride Chuck wouldn't have been murdered by. He'd beat Arona's ass though.

Most MMA careers are a product of match ups and such but things are what they are. A 40 year old wrestler came running at him twice. Randy's gameplanning genius ability is a little overrated also matter fact. Hey let's stand and bang with Chuck. I still think Liddell right now based on accomplishments is a GOAT candidate. Not hating. Just stating reality as it exists.

Is Chuck a top 5 All-time LHW? Hell yes.

Is he the GOAT at LHW? Hell no.

depends how you rate him, he wasnt one of the best ever imo, he was a great fighter though

Good point. I believe if u factor in what he did for the sport he is one of the greatest of all time.

Right now, Chuck is top 3, it's hard to say he isn't, and has arguments for current LHW GOAT. Just based off ability, tough to say, a new flock of LHWs is making those arguments difficult now.

Yeah because a guy like Bones Jones may end up being the best ever at the rate he is going.

Thats very hard to say because he didnt fight alot of those guys in his prime.

exactly so kinda hard to say he was the best in a certain time when we already saw him lose to Rampage and the lose again and watch what was happening in Pride and say Chuck was the best of his era
