| Subject: Ricky Burns vs Andreas Evensen set for Dec 4th Thu Oct 07, 2010 2:23 pm | |
| Scotland's Ricky Burns will defend his WBO super-featherweight title in Glasgow on the 4th of December against Norway's Andreas Evensen. Burns won the belt in September by defeating the highly-rated Puerto Rican puncher Roman Martinez at the city's Kelvin Hall, which is likely to be the venue for his maiden defence. Roman lost for the first time in his career that night and has since blamed the loss on weight making, although Burns, 27, feels that his will, desire and experience told on the night. Evensen, 24, holds the WBO Inter-Continental featherweight title and a WBO #6 ranking down at 126lb yet he has hovered between weight classes in recent times. Indeed, Andreas weighed 128½lb in his sole UK appearance, a fifth round TKO win over Gianpiero Contestabile at Manchester's Velodrome last September. The Melhus-based fighter is one of the few pro boxers operating out of Norway, where the professional code was declared illegal in 1981; his sole defeat came against future world title challenger Benoit Gaudet, the Canadian defeated Evensen on points over eight rounds in 2007 and then later lost a WBC super-featherweight title tilt to Humberto Soto by ninth round TKO. Burns moved to 29-2 (7 early) with the win over Martinez; the boxer recently told me that he has not changed his training habits, stating that he will be as active as a champion as he was as a contender, with the fight against Evensen, 13-1 (5 KOs), serving as a quick run out for the newly minted title holder. http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&id=31586 |

http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&id=31586 I had seen Burns fight once before his title winning effort. After the guts he displayed against Martinez (damn both of them were some ballsy motherfuckers that night), I will watch Burns or Martinez fight anyone. They both earned the utmost respect. | |
