One of the best movies I have seen in years. No surprise, it had nothing to do with Hollywood. The American version cuts two movies down into one and it still felt like a great cohesive narrative. The battle scenes were staggering and easily the best ever laid to film. The movie walks the line between the historical account of the last days of the Han Dynasty and the Romance of the Three Kingdoms perfectly, especially for the uninitiated. Of course nerds into that mythos all along hate this, but when don't they hate film adaptations based on their nerdisms?

When I say nothing to with Hollywood, I mean not produced by Hollywood. Actually I think the movie stylistically is influenced by the best in this genre, like LOTRs.

John Woo makes much better films when he's situated in Hong Kong.

This film, Red Cliff, seems to be a 3 hour plus epic. I better fucking like it Wolf or you'll hear from me.

Well it looks like it is 148min, but from the what I am reading and watching the trailer, I think I'll be thanking Wolf for this.

It's just over two hours in America. With both Asian parts taken as individual movies it's over four hours, for clarification.
And SOONERS, I don't believe you will get used to frank. I haven't yet.

I have all three special edition boxed set versions. They're amazing and are even better than the theatrical releases.

Agreed, I especially like the extended Return Of The King edition with the extra scenes with Borromir and Farimir.
Have you heard when they might be coming to Blu Ray ?

Did you know there is even more footage, hours worth of potential screen time, still hidden from the original shoot?

Yeah I heard Peter talking about possibly releasing the ultimate edition on the tenth anniversary.
I wonder if it'll include the scrapped idea of Arwen fighting at Helms Deep.

Finally found a version last night with English sub titles. Pretty awesome film. Chinese picks like this have a rare kind of epicness to them. The version I watched was 2 hrs 24 min. I thought this version was about 10 minutes to long, surprising because movies that flow like this tend to be way to long. But all things good. Ii though the strategist was gonna go rip ass at the end. I guess he was too smart to even consider needing to do that.
