Subject: Cotto-Cintron possible on Dec 4th...for the Ring Belt? Thu Sep 16, 2010 3:24 pm
There is an article over at boxing scene that says Cintron not Chavez Jr might fight Cotto. I am wondering the likelihood that fight could be for the Ring belt. Right now, Cintron is 2 and Cotto is 4. Sergio Martinez is still ranked at JMW and I would bet that after his next fight at MW, he would be removed. This would put Cintron at 1 and Cotto at 3 which gives the possibility of the Ring belt up for grabs. Since Cintron has already beaten Angulo, it gives credence to this proposed fight being for the Belt.
BoxingScene.com has been advised by sources in Mexico that if Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. doesn't face Miguel Cotto on December 4, Top Rank is considering a possible move to split the two fighters into separate bouts on the same date in Atlantic City.
Cotto would defend his WBA junior middleweight title in the main event. One possible name being kicked around for Cotto is former welterweight champion Kermit Cintron. The name being mentioned as a possible opponent for Chavez Jr. is Pawel Wolak, who was scheduled to fight Chavez in September before their fight fell through.
Cotto vs. Chavez began to have problems when the Mexican star refused to train with Freddie Roach in the Philippines, where Roach is going to train Manny Pacquiao for his scheduled fight with Antonio Margarito on November 13.

Does anyone else think that Cintron would beat Cotto? I might think too much of Cintron.

It's not a gimme for Cotto, but it'd be by far the biggest win for Cintron. Not too likely, but you never know.

Cotto was left for dead a year ago. Hard to get a bead on how good he is anymore and what he has left.

I'm not convinced that Cotto can compete at 154. He just is so small for that weight and has been through some wars. I think this would be a good fight. Cintron seems to have quite a bad rep with most fans but he has only been beaten by Marg, Williams, and Sergio(I'm counting it). I would not be confident picking either guy.

True but he looked great against Foreman. I think very highly of Cintron's ability though.

I think Cintron's power will cause Cotto and really anyone to be cautious.

Not really. He looked good against Foreman in July; moved well and boxed more with Manny Steward in his corner. And he still has power.

Cintron will fold under Cotto's pressure, its the same fight that it would of been at 147

Ya but Yuri Foreman is hot garbage who was hobbled by a bum knee anyway. I don't know enough about Kermit though to compare the fighters.

Cintron for all his mental weakness is a big strong dude at 154. He will give Cotto, who is short and stubby at that weight, all he can handle.
I've always wanted to see these two fight at 147.

funny i remember right after yuri beat santos everybody thought highly of him. yuri is still great to me and the fact that he fought with a messed up leg and actually had success when he decided to stand and trade speaks volume about his heart. as far as kermit goes we have to remember that emmanuel was kermit's trainer and knows him very well so advantage cotto although kermit can DEF. put anybody in trouble at that weight class. before he pulled his boeing act he was actually doing well against williams.

Cotto fucks this guy up. If Cotto goes back to working the body he will defeat Cintron. He has to get inside.

How many top 10 ring ranked fighters has Cintron defeated? I think the only one; Angulo.
1, as far as I know.
154 is not Cotto's best weight. Cintron has a good right hand with power. I think even at 154, Cotto will figure out a way to win the fight. He is a better fighter.

Cintron's best weight was 147, but Cotto's was probably 140.
Cintron is bigger than Cotto, and is probably physically stronger at 154. What is he, like 5'10"?
Cotto would get crushed by Angulo, Cintron held his own and won.
Who is more "damaged guds meng?" Cintron got beat down twice by Margo, Cotto once by Margo, once by Pacboy.

Cotto became too weight drained at '40. He looked much stronger at '47. Cintron beat a fourteen fight having Angulo. Cotto beat Mosely who beat Margarito who beat Cotto. The Angulo fight means nothing either way. I think Cotto is a much better all around fighter than Cintron and that's why I think he'll win.

Why is Martinez still being ranked at Jr Middleweight ? He vacated his trinket and hasn't fought at 154lb in over a year.
As for the fight I love it, I've been wanting to see Cotto vs Cintron for awhile now, I really hope it gets made.
As for who I'd pick to win I feel it's a toss up, you've got Cotto's brutal body punching vs Cintron's long willy frame and dangerous power, it'll be an interesting fight.

I wouldnt mind this fight. Cintron to me actually looked good against Williams.
This wouldnt be for the Ring belt unless they drop Martinez out of the rankings completely, which could happen since Williams-Martinez 2 will be for the middleweight title. If so, 1 and 3 would fight and, with Cintron already beating Angulo, Ring could make that exception. I cant see Ring ranking Cintron number 1 tho.

Well they have him at two with angulo at three and cotto at four.

Ring definitely need to step up their game if they want to give the title exposure and credibility.

I know Gringo Starr, but i cant see Cintron being ranked number 1 in a division.
