| I've invested in gold and silver for over ten years. They have easily out-performed the stock market. | |

| winston- tell me more
I have done a few days of research and am thinking at this point silver is the best buy. I like the looks of bars better but know they may be harder to sell. I am thinking about 100 oz of silver to start and 3-5 oz of gold. preferably a few 1 oz bars and some bullions or maples

Depending on why you are investing, the bars can be sold back at spot price and carries no numismatic value.I would also recommend "junk silver",which are coins that were produced in 1964 or earlier and had real silver content in them. I possess various types of gold coins and prefer the St Gaudens. If the price is a concern for you, look into purchasing 1/10 oz.coins, they're about the size of a dime.

| thanks winston, i am looking to spend somewhere between 5-10k depending on what catches my eye.
? on junk silver wouldnt that be more for collectors if the silver content is low? i want to hold for investments but also have onhand incase of SHTF scenario(which i think is very very unlikely but never hurts)

| CuBua... If I were new getting into it right now, I would steer towards silver (Rule of thumb for beginners is to start with silver first, but I think it's a safer investment right now as well). They have both been a great investment since hitting their floors (Gold from 99-01 when it dropped to $250, and silver in 2003 when it dropped to $4). Both have seen almost identical growth since with gold sitting just under $1300 and silver at around $17. But IMO, gold is going to hit a ceiling real soon while silver will continue to grow. Just a gut feeling...
Find a reputible source to do your investing!!! I hope you know people around you that have done the same and can steer you right. Good luck

I am thinking silver as gold may retrace a bit. The prices listed are based upon a $10 per oz.spot price. You would have to adjust those prices to the current spot price, which is about $18.

| Winston, are you using a broker or trading on your own? And I guess I should pay closer attention... Didn't realize silver had climbed to over 20 recently? That makes a pretty crappy day a little brighter... | |

| I trade on my own through the linked website and a local coin dealer.Silver is up 22% from this date a year ago.Gold is getting harder to come by these days,I figured I'd go hog wild on silver before the mainstream people do. | |

| Agreed, definitely bigger on silver under current circumstances. I'm not buying now, but would steer people like CuBua that way who are looking to get into it. | |

which bars are most recognizable or most trusted IYO? I own a couple of 1oz. bars produced by a company called Englehard out of New Jersey. I would look up the spot price of silver before you buy anywhere, check which ones offer you the best price(most places will go a dollar or two over spot) The fact you are leaving no paper trail by paying cash is a good idea,Good Luck!
